the food they put out on buffets is so inexpensive that you cannot "eat the place out of business".

the higher end buffets are usually open for a few hours anyway or only have a small window where thier premier choices are out on the buffet line, so it would be difficult to eat as many crabs or whatever for 7 hours straight.

a successful buffet usually wouldnt even care if you sit there all day eating their junk, so as long as you paid for your meal (and perhaps brought some other people to dine with you)

the trend of bringing the family or a party to a buffet will even out any margainal losses from eating champions or fattys.

I always thought it meant how ever much you can eat by stuffing x amounts of plates to nearly overflowing. Never heard of a buffet with absolutely no limit on food.

Oh yeah, you're right about that! Forgot all about the time I went to some Vegas buffet... they were serving churros and I probably ate twenty of them. :D

they bumped the price on the buffets... now it's the price of a normal meal. a few times ago when i was there, the price was 3.95 pretty much everywhere you went, and the food was still awesome. we jumped in just before dinner prices too. that would have been 5.95 or something. i dont recall anyone complaining about it...

What I never understood is why certain buffets don't have a fountain machine and have waiters refill you drinks.

well, at my college they have brunch from 11am to 3PM which is all you can eat, and I'll go right ahead and admit that I have several time showed up at 11am and jsut stayed all the way threw till 3PM doing work and pretty much eat one mean at 11 and another at 2:30. However this is at college and all the workers are college students, so nobody cares. If anything people think you are smart for getting more for your money.

Back when a friend and I were lifting a lot we used to go to this Chinese buffet a lot... we weren't fat, just big, both over 6' and 200+. If looks could kill, their entire staff would be guilty of murder :p They'd just stare at us constantly. It got to the point where we used their take-out, which was sold by the pound.

Probably so you dont waste your drinks.

Whenever my friends go to a buffet we see who can eat the most, so we really are getting our moneys worth. How ever for someone to really start making the place lose money, you would have to be throwing food out by the trash can full.

Maybe this makes them waiters/waitresses and not bussers, so therefore they can pay them well under minimum wage?

For the ignorant, fat has nothing to do with capacity.

I know people who weigh less than 180lbs, who can put a pretty good dent in a buffet.

Your argument holds no pasta, sorry. :p

hmmmmmm

You found the holy grail of loopholes...

Except at the buffet place I went to, they would close down for 2 hours in between lunch and dinner, to switch foods around and clean up, etc. So they would kick you out if you were there for 30 mins past their shutdown time

If they said ALL fat people can eat more than skinny people, I would agree.

But correct me if Im wrong, but I think it is a safe assumption that if you took 100 people who weighed 350+ lbs avg, and 100 people who weighed 120 lbs avg, that the 350 lb group would thoroughly trounce the 120lb group....

What if the 120lb group had just completed the Boston Marathon, gone home, showered, and showed up with a voracious appetite? What would happen then?

Never seen that... I have seen 1.5 hour time limits though.

Never been to one that had a time limit or a plate limit. You guys are gettin ripped off.
Cause they get really busy and don't want you hogging their table. You should be able to eat all you can eat in 1.5 hours anyway.

So, if an AYCE Buffet restaurant gets robbed by some homeless people overnight and they steal all the food in the restaurant, do they make an insurance claim for the cost of 1 meal or the cost of the food?

EVERYTHING in life should be considered "within reason." All you can eat buffet? Just realize that they're a business with real people getting paid for a living. Unlimited bandwidth? Great, but don't download three movies at once every second for an entire month. It just goes without saying, imo.

I mostly just graze at those places, since I have an affection for salad bars.
