IIRC, Hollister is the lower-priced sister store of Ambercrombie.
My wife works for American Eagle, not a bad store. Most of my clothes are from there (employee discount), but I tend to like the fit of Urban Outfitters better. Too bad the closest one is in Portland.
I really prefer the fit and look of certain brands, though. Sure, Sears or whatnot sells 'clothes' you can wear and they cover the basics....but trust me, if you can afford it, buy the better brands. Looks better, fits better, lasts longer.
Like graphics cards. Sure, an FX 5200 might be fine for a lot of people. But if you can afford a X800 XT....well, it's better, so go for it!

Hahaha... you washed your pants and they UNfaded, that's funny. I really hate that style of pants, but to each his own I guess. They just look so unnatural with two identical oval-shaped stains.
A few years ago, A&F had awesome quality at reasonable prices.
Now, their stuff is carp, and the prices are insane. And you get to deal with a bunch of snot nosed, think they are gorgeous morons, who get paid a small salary and are conned into spending most of it by buying the manditory A&F clothes they are forced to wear to work there.

Reebok, Nautica, Champion are my main shirts. I'm not big on logoware. I particularly enjoy the Reebok shirts, but those are some special shirts or something. Fine thread count, or whatever. So comfortable to wear, too bad I only have two.
I like Polo even though I don't like their "image" (have you seen the ads? They all look metrosexual). Their clothes are way too expensive for my blood though, so I only have two polos from them, a microfiber jacket and a heavy jacket.
only homos shop at those stores. it's what 14 year old girls would wear if they were 14 year old boys. try express, guess, H&M, and anywhere else except the gap. you know what.... i got to the salvation army and find some kicka$$ designer clothing for like 2 bucks. it makes me wonder why so many bums look like sh!t. dkny, guess, perry ellis, oscar de la renta. all stuff i found second hand. it's the way to go, bro.
Not everyone wants to look like a pretty boy.
Some people want to be comfortable and not worry about wrinkles and colors.
Hollister is the same as Abercrombie just targeted to a younger audience (same company owns them- just 2 different target markets). Express, H&M if you have one around you, ragstock (used clothing), department store clearence - gets much better brands than abercrombie or AE, and generally they are about the same price, cheaper if you get them on sale.

T-shirts are great to buy at thrift stores, I've found some awesome t-shirts there. Jeans I'd just get at Old Navy. I've had quality issues with some of the clothes at Old Navy (particularly the colars on their polos), but their jeans are fine. Clearance items in other stores is also a great way to get good deals. I couldn't believe it when I found an awesome pair of $50 jeans on the clearance rack at the gap for $13, and they were my size! (32x34, not a size you'd usually find on a clearance rack).

It could be a serious mindfvck that A&F did to me, but I never found their competitors clothing to come anywhere near the same comfort level. Old Navy, Gap, American Eagle... a lot of the stuff looked similar but just didn't feel as well made.
It's like buying a polo shirt from Kohl's and then buying a Polo brand Polo shirt. There's a huge comfort difference.
I grew out of A&F before Hollister and Aeropostale' so I can't really tell ya. Have you looked into Buckle at all? They have a lot of pretty cool t-shirts and some really nice (Lucky + others) jeans.
