Very nice speakers for the PC,I been using them for a few years now for listening to my mp3's,I paid around $140 for them. They sound great.
I bought another pair last year and hooked it up to my Dad's TV ,his stock TV speakers sucked and these are self powered taking a full 30 secs to hook them up. It fills up a very large room(full finished basment) and the base really shakes the house when viewing action movies...He loves them.
Whats nice about Cambridge Soundworks is that they have 45 day trial period....Good company with quality stuff.

I heard the microworks are pretty good from the speakers forum at 3dss.com... i jumped on the Yamaha MS50 speakers deal from Buy.com though, since it's $37 or so AR, and it's a pretty nice system. Haven't compared to microworks though...

I don't wish when it's reality. :) Klipsch of 2003 is not the Klipsch of the 1970s. Nice speakers, but overrated- way too bright and brash.

Anyway, I'm not trying to sour the thread here... simply steering the thread back on topic after Pinchy attempted to change the subject.

Cambridge's clarity on their higher end models like this walks all over Klipsch. Or any other PC speaker I've heard for that matter. But if making big, loud, bassy, gaming explosion noises to piss off your neighbors is your idea of 'cool', instead of hearing every breath Miles Davis takes on his trumpet on 'Birth of the Cool', then maybe Klipsch is your speaker. But the true audio enthusiasts choose CSW.

LET ME GIVE YOU A HUG!!!

NO KLIPSCH OWNER WANTS TO ADMIT THAT! I am sitting here with my dad's 4.1 Promedia set which I eagerly gave him because of that. I will admit, the horn tweeters on these babies are outstanding, but in the end, you end up with just an unpleasant mix of highs and lows. I have yet to hear a promedia set with convincing mids.

Ok people.

I bought the Microworks back in 1997, and as I was going through my crazy upgrading habits, i upgraded everything in my computer and monitor 5-6 times during this time span, the speakers were the only item that survived.

it is truly an amazing set of speakers for their size (about half of the klipsch promedia 2.1's height), and yes i own the promedia 2.1s now because the cambridge's sub finally decided to give in and i cannot find them sold new anywhere.
before the promedia 2.1s, i was going to have the 4.1s to replace the cambridge microworks i have, but on the same sound card (both TBSC and Philips Acoustic edge) the 4.1s did not sound better than the cambridge (yes the Klipsch promedia 4.1) anything the 4.1 did the microwork was right up there with it. the microworks filled the room like theh 4.1 did.
so i sold the 4.1s.

the through the 6 years span of me owning the cambridge microworks, i can easily say they were the best computer 3-piece available. they were sold in fry's refurbished for $50 but the amplifier in those refurbs were not as good as mine, therefore make sure you get new ones or ones well taken care of by previous owner.

i didn't get a chance to make a direct comparison between the microworks and the klipsch 2.1s but i can guarantee you this, the cambridge would not be overshadowed by much.

with all that said, $90 is a little much to charge though.

incredible. i bought these in like 98 or something, they still run:)

i use my klipsch on the main pc now though, i prefer their sound, the microworks can sound harsh, but the bass is tight. its a decent set for 90, esp considering i spent 300 on em back then!!

Oh well. At least howhao and I did our best to school AnandTech on what a real set of PC audio enthusiast speakers are. :)

This should have been in another forum, but at least Zipp got some free bumps out of it!

Isn't kind of pointless to bicker about computer speakers? In the end, they're all crappy, overpriced satellite systems. Get a set of headphones.

I own this set of speakers and I have nothing bad to say about it. It sounds great and the bass is awesome. When I would watch movies on my output to TV, i would turn these speakers up and man for 2.1, its a great experience. I use this for gaming too and I never get to turn them all the way up. The dial never goes past 3, any higher and my manager who would live right above me would complain about the bass. I recommend these to anybody, I got these 3 or 4 years ago and I wasn't sure if I overpaid or not, i only paid about 100 for these but they have turned out to be a great investment. Dont overlook these just because you hear the Klipsch or Logitech speakers are great(which they probably are) but these are really good speakers too.

for 90 maybe, but i got tired of the microworks harshness long ago. then again its relative, if your stepping up from cr@p speakers it will sound like gold to you.. until you nitpick and look for better as always happens anyways:) i'll replace my klipsch with something else i inevitably, but they are still def way better then the microworks.

Well, the hottest deal has to be the Telex EVs for $50 at CompUSA if you can still find them. I bought a set and they sound great, though I've never heard the other two systems.

I absolutely loved my Cambridge Megaworks 5.1. After 13 months one of the speakers developed a bad crackle. I asked for an RMA, paid my $20 diagnostic fee and waited. After two months I received an answer that indeed my set needed to be repaired. The repair cost was more than the price I paid for the set. Okay, fine, send it back. 30 days later I received my speakers back. I later learned that in Europe this speaker was recalled for having the same problem. Bought Klipsch 5.1 - happy again. Never again will I buy Cambridge. Needless to say the 60 day and 30 day wait time was interspersed with a dozen emails and phone calls.

Yah. I think Ive got it down to either the Telex Sonic XS or the Klipsch promedia 4.1's

All compusa are OOS on the Telex speakers but I can still pick up the 2.1 set on ebay for about 75-85$. The 4.1 Telex Speakers go for about 150$ and the Klipsch 4.1's are about 175$. Are the Telex speakers worth shelling out 80bucks? Or are those klipsch really worth the money?

Let me know guys :)
