Wait till winter. When I lived there back in 93-94 they didnt salt the roads and there are alot of hills. I was selling cars near a small hill and would just watch the people trying to get up it but it was most fun watching the cars slide down it. Also they had a theater there that you could smoke in, eat food (great food) and had all of the micro beers there you could sample.
The people were great and they had some wierd party places, some of which I was warned NOT to go into the back room (and didnt).
Western OR and WA drivers are some of the worst snow drivers in the world. This is known. It doesn't help that the snow we get here is wet and slick (known to skiers as the "Cascade crud"). Luckily, it usually snows in the city only once or twice a year, and some years not at all, and most people just stay home when it does.

All this talk of food makes me think that Portland had better have some good sushi and Japanese, Thai, Greek, and German restaurants. At least, they'd better.

Oh, and a Somalian restaurant would be nice, too.

portland has some great Thai restaruants. i mean real THAI food not malaysian food dressed up to look like thai food. weird, in this area, all the "thai" restaruants just have malaysian food.

i miss the thai restaruants i used to go to in Portland.

Do you remember any of the restaurant names?

not sure if you will remember this thread but

bangkok kitchen was the place that has SMOKING hot food. very very authentic.

I fairly recently moved to Portland myself! I don't live too far from where you work at :D
If you want good BBQ head up to Buster's Texas Style BBQ on Highway 99 just before you get to I-5.
And for a rather nifty experience you can go to the drive in in Newberg. http://www.99w.com very nifty.
I love all the natural beauty around here, driving out to Tillamook, Canon Beach, Multnomah Falls or up to Mt. Hood are always great.

Man, I can't believe all you Portland people haven't mentioned Thien Hong up on Sandy Blvd. yet for their Pepper Salted Squid. Even if you're not a seafood person, you gotta try it. My sister doesn't like seafood, yet after trying this stuff, she's hooked. Accept NO substitutes! THIEN HONG on Sandly Blvd.

For all you naysayers, just try it first. The tentacles might be a little scary, but they're not the hentai kind. ;)
