Have you played CoD4? IMO it's GOTY - gripping and cinematic single player (although short) and addictive multiplayer.

I just started the single player, which seems good so far. The multiplayer is killer and has easily replaced halo 3 mp. This is on the 360, but in general this should translate, no? 2x  for COD4

single is ok, but when I play FPS games, I tend to look at it from an end-games's approach, (ie. multiplayer). COD:UO was like nothing else... All other COD multilayer games have been utter shit.

Exactly my thoughts, I guess we just have higher expectations for multiplayer. The maps, vehicles, rifle servers etc. - loved everything about COD and UO. COD4 otoh was just more of COD2 in modern settings, more run n gun mayhem and retarded respawning right next to the enemy. Some of the maps were ok but most of the time I felt like I was just running around in a circle. Anyways I guess the WWII theme has been overdone but what I do like is the fact that the rifles were effective, versus modern day shooters where everyone gets a submachine gun and basically just "sprays and pray".

Yeah, more Russia, especially more maps other than winter time. There was a lot of Winter fighting, but that wasn't the defacto.

Japan should be included, we should be able to fly Air planes in missions, they should include the British Armies in Malaysia and the USMC and U.S. Army in the Pacific.

Personally, I'm still not tired of WW2 games. Maybe because it makes a much better story than any other wars. My all time favorite games are MOH:AA, COD, and BF1942. MOH: Pacific Assault sucked, but I just got MOH: Airborne and I love it. It's a huge improvement over the last couple installments in the MOH series.

This is Activision we're talking about here.

They are going to milk that franchise until it's sucked dry. They've promised yearly installments of GH, Tony Hawk and CoD. That's why they need two devs for the CoD series.

The developers have probably been working on the game for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the return to WWII was so they could use the existing assets they have from CoD3.

What the hell is GH?? General Hospital ;)

You do realize that there is a fix to this..

Hardcore + Search and Destroy,

usually one shot will kill you, and you don't respawn until the next round begins.

Ha! Is there a square inch of that war that hasn't been reenacted digitally yet? I say they go back to the Revolutionary War. 1 shot every 20 seconds ought to make you improve your aim.

You know they keep doing the same battles over and over, and ignore 95% of the war.

How many games have had China in them? That's were the majority of the Japanese army was at. How often do you see the Soviets vs. Finland in games? Where's the games featuring the Free French, or the Free Polish troops? How about the Burma campaign with the Chindits or Merrill's Marauders? What about the Norwegian Campaign? How often does ABDA get mentioned, specifically the Dutch and Australian forces. Etc. etc. ...

Edit: Have to add Yugoslavia and the partisans. All kinds of drama going on there during WW2.

Um it wouldn't be good to have a game where the majority of the battles are lost. I mean the French had a solid 2 weeks of getting their asses kicked and then having their country taken over. Not until the Americans and the Britains performed the assault on D-Day did the Allies start to win. Also, the Polish almost got taken over too. I do agree that not nearly as many games have the battles in the pacific against the Japanese. There were some incredible battles over there that I think would be great to play.

Wrong, the British stormed North Africa, burned the French Vichy Fleet, and then routed the Italian Army from 1941-1942. Then Rommel came in, and then the British had to put more fight into it, but eventually, they got blown out of North Africa in 1943. There's a whole segment of Italian fighting that went on, yet that rarely gets covered. The French Resistance was 'successful' enough, but they weren't just French; there were some Danes and Brits fighting alongside as well.
The action in china with the Flying Tigers did the job, and there was intense fighting in Burma, and by the end of the war, the British Commonwealth had pretty much obliterated the Japanese army in Burma and Malaysia.

What they should be doing for COD5 is the Battle over Britain/Battle for Midway WWII air campaigns with bombers/fighters/aa/carriers/etc. Now that would be something different, but still WWII based. Don't get me wrong, I actually luved playing COD4 and FPSs, but this would be the "next" step in the COD series.

I agree; let us play as pilots for God's sake, something innovative. The AC-130 mission was alright, but I want more control and the like.

I hope at the very least they set this in the Pacific. You can actually count the number of Pacific WWII games. I'm getting tired of killing nazis and the same weaponry and vehicles. At least the terrain and fighting style would be different.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with the WW2 setting. They just need to make it a bit more creative instead of the normal COD's. Frankly, I lost all hope in all COD's so it won't really matter. But take CoH, its a WW2 based game, its no FFS, but nonetheless same theme.... and look how that turned out.

Especially considering all the WW2 RTS games--CoH actually did something different--it combined real tactics--my only wish is for bigger maps, a little more zooming out, not as much as Sup Com's, and control of aircraft and more "strategy."
