Holy crap. WWII is so freakin' overdone. I'd like a FPS for modern combat that looked as good as COD4 but was as massive if not more as BF2 or OFP. I'd also like complete realism to it (aka tactical shooter). That would be the perfect game...

Maybe they should do a futuristic one around the year 2142 or so...

i was thinking that as well. they sometimes have vehicle sections in these games, how about some flight sim sections? or some naval sections?

Sounds like what Ubi Soft does with Splinter Cell. 1 and 3 were made by Montreal and 2 and 4 were made by Shanghi. 1 and 3 were amazing, 2 and 4 pretty much sucked. although it looks like Montreal might be the ones to toaly ruin the franchise with conviction.
Any way i hope they dont go back to WWII. I dont think this will be the case though. I cant see a company that is about money going backwards, that would probably lose more than it would make.

Good news but probably as irrelevant as CoD 3 for me given it likely won't come to the PC.

Isn't CoD4 selling extremely well? I just don't see why they're going back. I'd love to see some modern jungle warfare or something.

Awesome. In Call of Duty 5 I'll get to storm Normandy for the 20th time and get to kill poor old Fritz at bunker #6 once again. Poor bastard.

They are going to milk that franchise until it's sucked dry. They've promised yearly installments of GH, Tony Hawk and CoD. That's why they need two devs for the CoD series.

The developers have probably been working on the game for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the return to WWII was so they could use the existing assets they have from CoD3.

I believe the word they used was "exploited". :p

Anyway, word on the street is that theyre going pacific theater. There have been few pacific games made, and ZERO good ones. COD3 wasnt a great game, but it wasnt bad either. It was merely good. I wouldnt lose faith entirely yet.

Theres plenty left to milk in WW2, and Vietnam/Korea havent been touched yet. And those are just the american wars. Not to mention they can really just make up a fictional war if they so desire.

Id say the shark won't be fully jumped until we've got a sci-fi call of duty. Im guessing that will be somewhere around CoD 10.

Or spy missions somewheres deep in Russia or Germany... A flight sim would be pretty bad ass in a CoD game :D

The flight parts in COD4 were pretty intense... I wouldn't mind an entire game based around what I like to call the "aerial tank" mission. Man... it was blast switching from 3 different types of guns and watching the mayhem from above... :)

I too wouldn't mind spy missions - but alas, that would go against what COD is all about - constant action... :)

This WAS my wishlist:

If WW2:
-Maybe some featuring of Pacific battles, show the USMC some love, eh?
-More open ended environments (yeah, I know, keep dreaming on that one)
-More interaction between man and machine; let us fly airplanes!
-Let us tamper with our gun; marines were able to mod their Garands to go automatic, albeit with recoil, but let's have some of that.
-Flamethrowers?
If Korea:
-Same as the above, really, but if aircraft included, I'd like to fly some F9F Panthers
If Vietnam:
-Huey Piloting is a MUST!
-Have gun variety, have different stories of different people, experiencing the story of a Huey Gunship pilot, gunner, a Navy Skyraider, squad man, Point man, any of this would be sheer amazing.
-A Jet sequence would be awesome as well (F4 Phantoms/F8 Crusaders with the Air Force or Marines, anyone?)
If Modern:
-Cobra piloting or some sort of gunship piloting is a MUST!
-Blackhawks can be outfitted with some rocket and gun pods, so Blackhawking would be awesome, as well (UH-1Y light gunships would be nice as well, or behind a .30Cal mini wouldn't be too bad).
-Let us fiddle with semi futuristic equipment--the V-22 Osprey is in service now, replacing the CH-46E. Let us fire the 20mm 3 barreled cannons they're employing on those babies!

For you guys wanting a Pacific scenario be sure to try MoH Pacific Assault. It's not the best WWII FPS out there but it's still quite fun. You also get to pilot a Dauntless.

So far, Pacific Assault is the only WW2 FPS that actually pits you in the Pacific. If CoD5 featured the USMC and Commonwealth forces against the Japanese, I'd buy it for sure. Chances are, it won't even come out for the PC.

COD1 >>>>>>>>>> COD4 >>> COD2 > COD3

COD w/ Halo shield and stupid teammates that respawn anyways =

COD1 was the best ever ever. No stupid Halo shield, and teammates that don't respawn and that you actually have to protect in order for the next part of the chapter to be easier.

I HATED COD2, and couldn't stand 20 minutes of COD3. COD4 was alright (cinematic gameplay, that entire sneaky sniper mission, and the AC-130 mission were the saving graces..otherwise it was just another stupid COD2).

fixed :p

i don't really follow COD, but from what i've read, COD3 was by far the worst, and that's the only one that wasn't done by infinity ward

COD:UO - Base Assault > ALL COD's nuff said. Every other COD game will be crap, and it all started at COD2 and kept getting worse.
