If that's what it takes to plug the budget chasm, then fine.

Unless you prefer the GOP plan that wanted 100,000 kids eligible to start kindergarten to wait until NEXT YEAR and still wasn't balanced after the usual accounting tricks.

My sister just paid over $900 for her car registration. A friend of mine just paid about $800 for his car registration. Being there to see their face expression was priceless.

last year the regestration for my ford tempo was 56 dollars now it is 76 dollars......i dont even want to know how much its going to be next year... >_<

Mine is in september. so I still paid the old fee. The new one is october and later. Hopefully they'll repeal it next year 😉

i don't like paying new taxes, but come on, this is small potatoes for most drivers. you've got people in BMW's bitching about paying a car tax that's less than the luxury tax they didn't think twice about when they bought the car. and "poor" people won't be affected because it only affects new cars. so i fail to see how this is a big hardship for anyone.

No, that is NOT FINE!!! Those fvckers in Sacramento need to reduce spending. They increased spending by a greater margin than tax revenues increased over the past 3+ years. That is why we have such a huge deficit.

Joe Davis (his name isn't Gray-that must be an alias or his stance on most issues) and the rest of the hippie doofuses in the legislature must go, they do NOT represent the people. They represent special interest and themselves only.

right, cheaper registration on your new Ford is more important than education for our children. kindly remove your head from your ass.

No, it doesn't affect only new cars. It affects every car every year you renew your registration. So, you buy your car and you pay 8.25% in sales tax on it when it is new and you pay the cost to register it the first year (a $30,000 car will cost you roughly $650). Next year when the registration comes up for renewal you pay the registration fee again which is based on the value of the car so it will go down a bit but not much, you will still pay over $500. For a frickin' 1" by 1" blue sticker and a piece of paper with your name, address and the VIN of the car on it! It is total BS!!!:disgust:

Kindly remove your head from your ass. Nobody said it has to be education that is cut. Cut some of the fat from Sacramento, cut some of the pay raises for the unions that have Davis in their pockets. Do ya think that they say they'll have to cut education for a reason? Maybe to get saps like you to believe that these tax increases are necessary? Gee...the government spends money like drunken whores it must all be going to education!!! Wake up and smell the sh!t they're shoveling!

They should do away with the car (property) taxes around the country. If you have to pay taxes on property you own, then you don't really own it...

The "wont somebody please think of the children?!?!" argument is old and tired. No one is falling for it anymore.

The fact of the matter is, tax rates should never have to go up... unless spending is increased. The CA state government spent the windfalls of the tech boom by creating billions of dollars in new spending rather than banking that money for the inevitable bust. The quick and simple way to remedy this is to roll back that spending. And, of course, kids were being educated just fine before that new spending started, and will continue to be educated after it's rolled back.

Thank you. You sir are correct!

Reducing property taxes is part of what put California in the budget problems it is currently in. Prop 13 limited the yearly increases on property taxes, and made it much more reliant on income taxes as a result. With the drop in income taxes (because of the generally poor economy for the past couple of years), California just hasn't been able to collect as much as it projected.

That isn't my point. My point relates to the concept of ownership. If the government can take my car or my house away because I didn't pay my taxes, then I don't really OWN my car or my house.

I agree..

I thought he just removed the refund people were getting on their registration. If you look at your registration from last year and don't take into effect the refund you got to lower the price it shouldn't be all that different from what you're paying this year.

deficit = massive cuts or more taxes.

or deluded dreams that deficits don't hurt at all!

sometimes there isn't a happy choice.. deal withit😛

Then neither one of you understand government. You make a contract with them by using their services(i.e. their roads, infrastructure, and other services). Don't pay and you can have them go "after" you aka put a lien on your home or foreclose. Same deal with any commercial entity. Government has more power than a typical business(read civil asset seizure laws/environmental seizure laws) but MOST of the time... not paying your taxes SHOULD be grounds for a lien or seizure. Unless you are using no services(not possible because the military keeps us all safe) then you don't have a reason to bitch about paying taxes. Now, you can bitch about the AMOUNT(they are too high) but the fact that you have to PAY them at all shouldn't be an issue. The military and other things aren't free. They all have to have money to operate.

California is one of about 20 states facing shortfalls because of the economic downtown and increased spending. Part of it is the fault of government, and part of it is the fault of the people. Lots of these increases were supported by the people because they fault the economy would continue to stay strong, and that the new programs were "needed" since we had increased revenue and surpluses.

Don't blame only your local politicians; the uninformed voter is guilty as well.

yup, stuff like prop 13 passed with good intentions but crippled us.

as for you conservatives, remember when reagan was governor he doubled taxes.

Actually, I should've said more than what I did.. I do understand these concepts, and did actually mean to mention that the government has to make money somehow, I just agreed with his sentiment.

I also agree with others that have said that if this is what they need to do, then.. it's what they need to do.

Move if you don't like it.
