you didn't know?

nearly every candidate said they will repeal it. i know bustamante said he'll "lower" it, so who knows by how much.

Nope, just found out about it now... geezus.

I got a ticket for having expired registration... expired back in April, just renewed it last month. It cost $10 to pay off the ticket, and $160 for the registration.

Yup. $500 registration here for a $20,000 car.

Gray Davis rules!

That was sarcasm, right?
What do you think?

$472 due 11/08/2003 on a 2000 A4 w/ 50,000miles.

Here's what the deal is:

There was a VLF offset that reduced the amount you pay.
This was about 2/3rds of the VLF portion of your registration fee.
The VLF offset was removed.
Local fees still apply, weight fees still apply, and smog abatement fees still apply.

It's closer to doubling than tripling. ($380 on my '02 Dakota vs. $196 new, and $182 last year)

There's a movement now to repeal the entire car tax altogether. I suggest everyone sign the petition if they get the chance.

Heh... the "value" of my car is about $600. So registration would be $12. That would be okay. :D

you cali folks all did it to yourself

Davis has to pay for all this somehow, and a lot of people drive. It gets the bills paid.
