$105.77 --> $106 bill = 10.60 + 5.30 = $15.90 = $16 tip.

I'll do this, but instead of rounding the tip itself I round the bill to the whole dollar amount. In this case $121.17 -->$122 or $121 depending on service (usually it's rounded up though and if it was great food/service would go up to $125).

eh.. i usually just look at it and pick a number.. it doesnt work out to be exactly 15% or 18% every time. I usually do 10%, then round up to the nearest dollar that I think gets me to around 15%, so sometimes it's probably >20%, other times, it's probably more like 12%

For example, a $23 bill

Take 10%, which is 2.3

Divide 2.3 by 2 which gives you 1.15

Add 1.15+2.3 = 3.45

I'd make it 3.5 so it doesn't look too obvious that i calculated the tip exactly 15% :p

The smartest way yet!

Sales tax on prepared food here is 10% so I don't have to do much math. :|

This I do but I use 15% as a baseline. You do good and make me happy I give a little more. If I walk out satisfied I go with 155. You piss me off, I'll throw a couple bucks on the table.

Yea, this is pathetic. I'm usually a pretty good tipper cause my parents were busboy/waitress when they were younger and beat it into me. 20% is the norm, 25% if it's good.

Plus I don't like fucking with people who prepare my food.

I've never tipped for anything, ever. Makes things simple.

That's because it's probably different in Kiwi land.

In germany it's very rare to tip...if you do the food/service was really good.

Why would you even tip if they pissed you off? That makes no sense.

Neither do half of your posts but I still read them right? ;)

They tried to service me and though it wasn't to my expectations, I'll give them a little something just for trying to do their job.

Thier job is to provide good customer service. If they aren't even doing thier job why would you reward that person?

15% isn't hard... take 10%, half that, and add the two together... that said, I generally just tip 20%

You still get your full hourly/salary rate even if you fuck up (pending you are hourly or salaried).

15% is 10% plus half of it again...

For $27.68 round up to $28, so 15% is $2.8 +$1.4 = $4.20 easy...

(Granted that without the rounding it is $4.15, but if an extra 5c tip is going to break the bank you have bigger problems)

Just wait until the next generation (which was raised with laptops in schools and cellphones in their pockets) grows up.
