Yep, definitely real. A few years back I went from about 9 or 10 cups of Joe per day to 0, cold turkey, and I had a massive headache, along with some major irritability, for 3 solid days. I'm back on coffee again, but I don't drink anywhere near as in the past.

I drink 3-4 cups every day, including weekends, mainly to compensate for a lack of sleep (bad, I know). On weekends when I actually sleep in, I only have 1-2 cups when I wake up just because coffee tastes so damn good.

In the last office I worked at (very small office), one of the admin assistants pranked me by making the coffee instead of me. She knew what an addict I was/still am so she thought it would be fun to make decaf for a few days to see if I'd notice.

After two days, I didn't have headaches, but I was ridiculously tired, almost conking out at my desk, and I had a terrible case of the shits. I chalked it up to something I ate, until, in my caffeine-free stupor, it occurred to me that there might be something wrong with the office coffee as I was now drinking 5-6 cups a day and getting no benefit.

I called her on it and she had a laugh. Thanks a lot bitch :|:p.

Meh, I don't believe I've experienced anything like that. I decided to completely stop drinking coke for a while to see if anything would change, and nothing. Went without coke for a month. Now I just randomly drink it when I feel like it. Maybe this is for the worse because, when I am in need of energy, caffeine from coke or coffee never seems to do anything.

I recently had to stop consuming caffeine in the ridiculous amounts I have previously. It really wasn't that bad. I knew better than to just stop (bad bad idea as a few hours into a non-caffeinated day would usually give me a headache), so I gradually reduced intake. Now I can have some or none and it really makes no difference. Coffee does taste great once you acquire the taste for it though. Good stuff.

I noticed when I slowed down to 1 cup a day I didn't need it as much. You grow a tolerance to it like alcohol. The more you drink it the more you think you need.

Best way to fight it is to take a small amt of caffeine + an analgesic that vasoconstricts

it doesn't help that much because you can't stop drinking it.

I cut almost all caffeine out of my life like 6 months ago... when I was consuming caffeinated beverages on a regular basis, it did nothing for me. I could easily down a glass of coke right before bed.

now that I don't really drink caffeine at all, on the rare occasions when I *do* drink coffee, it makes me absolutely bouncing off the walls wired.

I gave up coffee for a while but it's pointless for me to do so. I do everything important better on coffee, addict or not.

One to three cups a day is not being addicted lol. One to three pots a day is being addicted which I've been happily for the last several lifetimes. I get headaches, mood swings and, generally irritated if I don't get my coffee or tea. The caffeine has little effect in terms of a stimulant but, a major effect psychologically. It's a crutch and always available AND, no one bitches at you for abusing it. :) I frequently drink coffee before bed as it calms me. I attribute my immunity and dependence on caffeine to my Norwegian heritage.

I quit coffee (not caffeine entirely thanks to Coke) about a month ago. It took 1-2 weeks for my body to adjust.
