"Cache" is pronounced "cash." Is it ever OK to pronounce it "cash-aye" or are the devs of "The Conduit" idiots?

I was playing "The Conduit" on Wii the other day and I received directions from another character referring to a weapons' cache or something (I assume that's plural-possessive). It was voiced and pronunciated as "cash-aye." I remember correcting and making fun of some "Travis" guy ~1995 when was talking about his Netscape Navigator "cash-aye file."

The fact that this got through every level of development without SOMEONE correcting it makes me wonder: Is it EVER OK to pronounce it that way?

The only time to pronounce it that way is if you plan on paying the fee.

One hit to the head with a nurf bat.

If I ever said "cash-aye" in your presence, you would just sit quietly, clenching your fists in anger knowing that if you opened your mouth to correct me I would crush you like a worm. Everyone knows this.

"cash-aye" (more or less) is the pronounciation of the word "cachet", but not of the word "cache".

Is that before or after the flying pigs?

I guess we all know how you (stupidly) pronounce it. ;)

"It's French, BITCH!" [/Colbert]

Pronunciation. ;)

Perhaps it's a case of using the wrong word? Lemme think... nope: It was printed on the screen too.

Side note: Nope. It's a plain ol' adjective, ergo, "weapons cache." It answers the question, "What kind of cache is it?" and not "What/who does this cache belong to?"

I have a few coworkers that pronounce cache, 'cash-aye'. They also say 'CHA-sis' when speaking about an equipment chassis.

Cash-aye?

Yeah if someone has a bamboo shoot up their ass.

Too close to cashew which is nuts. Pistachios > cachews any day. Just get the undied ones so you don't have red fingers and lips!

a lot of people don't understand french pronunciation. It's alright, I don't fret much. Kind of comical though when the British reporters describe a weapons cache and pronounce it "cash-A". I mean, France is like their neighbors! :p

A lot of people think everything that looks French needs to be pronounced with a decidedly French sound. It has an "e" at the end, I have to frenchify the pronunciation now!
But people have failed to realize that if it's french, the last vowel is only pronounced when followed by a consonant, and iirc, the last consonant is not pronounced unless followed by another letter. Eh, something like that... used to study French but gave up a long time ago.

Cash-aye is the pronunciation of a software package data base.
