Well good for you, I'm so happy that you - and so many other utterly helpless people were able to quit smoking through the overly superior government that the state of California possesses. If only every state legislature could be so insightful.

I actually quit smoking in Virginia at the start of my 3000 mile road trip. I just find it easier to not want to smoke now that people around me are not smoking.

The simple fact is, that was a lifestyle choice that you made in your former job and place of residence.

It could've just of easily been obtained by removing yourself from the job and staying where you live.

LOL, not being around smokers had no part in my move to the west coast

Irrelevant. If everyone around you in VA did crack, would you have been a crack addict too?

LOL, not being around smokers had no part in my move to the west coast but

80 degree temperatures in the summer with low humidity and living 3 miles from the beach and having a pool open 365 days a year did

The point flew right over your head.

I agree, and that's why I'm for benevolent dictators.

The US is not, nor was it founded as a democracy. It is a representative republic.

The founders were wise enough to know of the tyranny of the many, and that it was just as evil as the tyranny of the few.

For some reason, I'm not surprised by that.

I smoke, but I really really want to quit. Smokin's bad folks. I sorta wish they'd do something like that around here.

Yes, because your lack of independance and responsiblity makes it impossible for you to actually accomplish things for yourself.

Please government, control my life - charge me more taxes so I can do the things I want to do but can't without your superiour help.

Douche bag

I used to work in a restaurant in Virginia where the majority of the employees and a large percentage of the bar crowd smoked and found it difficult to quit smoking. Since moving to California I find it much easier to not smoke since im not around smokers anymore.

Do you think that makes you any less or more of a weak willed douche bag?

what's with the personal attacks? dude should be congratulated for having kicked the habit rather than called a douche bag by an e-badass.

anyway, cold turkey is the best way to quit smoking. and, as long as he kept at his old job, he couldn't quit cold turkey because he got enough exposure to nicotine while on the job. so, the people surrounding him did have something to do with it, and was relevant. the state of california had nothing to do with it. being able to (finally) quit cold turkey did.

Sorry, but despite the myths, ETS is not a significant source of nicotine. No one gets addicted to ETS. His problem was temptation. And in his case, he sees it as okay to take away the freedoms of everyone else to limit his exposure to temptation.

That makes him a weak willed douche bag.

Aren't you confusing Miri with SlitheryDee? All Miri said was he found it easier to quit when not around smokers. All that crap about ETS is pointless, anyone addicted to anything will find it easier if the source of the addiction isn't around. Your name calling is asinine.

Quitting by avoiding temptation is not really quitting... because temptation WILL come around sooner or later. Quitting is all about dealing with temptation.

Sure it is. Avoiding temptation while still physically addicted is a very good idea and could indeed lead to a true quit. Tempations after the cravings have passed are easier to deal with. Regardless, you started calling Miri names on the assumption that he was glad people had their rights taken away when he never said anything like that. In fact, he clearly stated that wasn't a reason he moved. And even beyond all that, can you never make a point without resorting to name calling? It seems like that is a common tactic with you. Some would say that is weak.

Do you think all the innocent people hurt and killed in the illegal trade of tobacco fueled by such artifically high prices will "feel better?"

Do you "feel better" knowing that such a "sin tax" really only hurts the poorest among us?

Well... the War on Drugs has been sooooo successful, what with no one even wanting to do drugs or anything like that, and the violence and oppression of the poor and restriction of freedoms and millions of non-violent offenders in prisons associated with that has been more than worth it, and so he thought we should start a war against tobacco with all that success and get the same results and... oh wait.

;)
