You guys giving thumbs up to this are retards. More expensive cigarettes are not going to make anyone stop, it just extracts exorbitant amounts of money from those who do, which is stupid.

Besides, dislike the habit all you want, if someone chooses to smoke and spend THEIR money on that then let them. A tax like this is uncalled for.

How about this - I don't drink alcohol and dislike the habit. So I would love it if the entire country put a $20 tax on every bottle sold. Let's see how everyone likes that. It's basically the same thing.

Exactly. If you think they'll stop at cigarettes for taxes like this, think again.

I thought one of the great things to happen in American history happened because tea was over taxed. Now we're doing what we fought against?

They should've added $26.00 to a pack.

You are a clueless tool.

I take it you read his blog too!

Heh, just follow his posts. I've never seen a more schitzo, contradictory, hypocritical, and paranoid politcal view ever.

You are overlooking the point that this was voted on by the people. The majority of people WANTED the tax. If the majority of people didn't want the tax it would not have passed.

The majority of the people offered also wanted to drink the Jonestown kool-aid. The tax shouldn't have been offered in the first place.

Shyte it's going to be cheaper to buy weed over cigs before you know it!

I'd be pissed off if I still smoked and lived in CA but neither of those apply to me.

It's an outragous tax. I don't care if the people voted for it, it should not be in place.

Get ready for black market cigarette dealing criminals... and the high crime that goes along with them.

A high tax like this is (nearly) effectively a ban. And bans on things like this only enrich one crowd: Organized crime.

This will cause a lot of smokers to wuit whicvh will result in less tax revenue that the State already recieves on the taxes they levy on cigarettes. How will the make up for this lost revenue?

its not governments place to legislate on this sht

If I were the government, I would have banned cigarettes altogether by now. Its an extremely addictive substance.

If you don't think they'll find a way to feed their addiction (rich or poor) you are sadly mistaken.
