Frys is doing the same deal they did about a month ago with the C2Duo E6300 Retail w/ CPU fan and the POS ECS P4M800Pro for $169. Its B&M, so if you've been looking to jump on the C2Duo bandwagon, nows a good time.

For those of you saying its OEM, it is NOT OEM, I just picked up a combo, its a sealed Retail chip with HSF and a 3 year warranty. With people scrambling to pickup chips for $170, here you get a free mobo... a POS mobo... but still a mobo

I also picked up an Antec NeoHE 550 PSU for $69.99

Antec NeoHE 550

It goes for $115 on Newegg. Great PSU if you're looking for stable SLI-ready PSU w/ modular cables. Its available on both B&M and outpost

I expect this kind of combo for $159 or less around black friday.

Yes, it's OEM CPU, not retail version. You have to buy heatsink and fan
by yourself.

it being oem really kills this deal...and i dont have problems with ecs boards...but this board is really crappy. main reason is that it supports ddr and ddr 2 which in itsself is good but the ddr support is only single channel....

ECS boards are the friggin' suck. I went in on a ECS RC410L/800-M + D 805 combo awhile back for a few systems. Out of the 3 boards I bought, I've had to replace all of them once, and two of the replacement boards have been replaced once and twice respectively.

Actually... no, its retail. I just picked one up. Its a retail box with HSF, sealed with a 3 year warranty. Anytime the ads show a picture of the box, then you get the sealed retail box. If its just the logo of the Core 2 Duo, then its just a bare chip (which I bought last time and it was DOA)

I'm in Los Angeles, don't know if this is at all Fry's though.

I've built at least 70 PCs in the last 2 years with ECS boards in them, have had 2 come back for motherboard related issues. I would highly recommend them as a workhorse mainboard, although not so much if you want to OC very much at all.

Wish we had Fry's in Colorado, arrgh!

Yep, AGP and supports both DDR and DDR2. Its good intermediate upgrade for people still running AGP cards. YOu're basically just buying the chip at a good deal and getting a free motherboard.

seriously guys, the guy said he picked one up IN the BOX. i think he knows the difference between a chip being in a box and not or having a hsf/ or not. Jeez, maybe the idiot you spoke to at the store was talkin out of his arse. Last time Fry's had this deal a couple weeks ago, I did call and stopped by and both times was told it was Retail chip and board. let's just put that discussion to rest. this SHOULD BE a retail chip, if your fry's tries to f you that's a diff story!

If you guys check the actual ad, it is the Retail Boxed E6300 this time unlike last! I didn't feel like waiting around for this deal to pop up and since I knew I wasn't going to use the crappy ECS board anyway, I ordered from hwerebuild.com and received my retail E6300 for $170 (free shipping and no tax in CA)!

I believe hwerebuild.com has raised their price on the E6300 to $172 (yes a whopping $2.00 raise!) :p

Either way, great deal on a great chip!

well, i guess this is a YMMV thing, since the guy I talked to in Houston says retail, last time and this time. if any of you would think this is a good deal if it were a retail chip, i'd say try and see what happens.

This whole thread backs up something I think many of us feel about fry's. Its cheap but don't expect expert level service or support and absolutly no consistincy. We don't go there because we love them. Its just cheap.

I got the E6300 combo from BA frys earlier today. The instore flyer shows a boxed CPU and thats what i got ( retail 3 yr with HSF included). Fry's sometimes puts out different ads for different regions.

now what I'm curious to see is how many of us who bit on Fry's C2Duo combos are having problems with the ECS boards. From what I've heard, almost half are DOA or have serious problems.

ECS boards arent bad, i've had 5 for the last 5 five builds and they've all been find.

i have a fry's in here in dallas, tx and it's a retail box. Probably gonna pick one up this Christmas for a secondary compy. Then I can upgrade the mainboard later.

I believe someone has overclocked this board and it does a little over 2.0ghz (not much since stock is 1.86ghz and these chips can really OC!).

If you want to OC, then definitely ditch the ECS combo board!
