I just got the combo at the Chicago Fry's and it was a retail CPU.

What I want to know is what RAM works fine with this board.
It says it only supports DDR2 533, but what about DDR2 667?
And what brands work well for you guys?

It will take the 667, but it will only operate at 533.

Some real world benchmarks show that Dual Channel 533 runs faster than 677. Not really sure for the reasoning behind it, but the numbers were there.

Interesting, I wonder if it has anything to do with the latency.

Benchmark Analysis

"Normally memory bandwidth improves with increases in memory speed and reductions in memory timings...

...In this case, we find the combination of our memory settings at DDR2-667 and the VIA memory controller generates Sandra results that are up 32% lower than the DDR2-533 settings...

..We see that our DDR2-533 memory setting places first in all applications... Our DDR-400 results are impressive as they finish slightly ahead of the DDR2-667 settings, though both come close to the DDR2-533 configuration...

...The performance pattern is similar to the synthetic benchmarks with the DDR2-533 setting performing best overall. The DDR2-667 and DDR-400 configurations basically end in a tie with the DDR-333 finishing last...

Good review, but this ECS board differes in that it has single channel RAM. I wonder how much that hurts performance and if it would be worth it to run DDR2 533 since that seems the fastest overall.

Bump for this deal being back in today's SJ Fry's ad.

Edit: anybody know of a good mATX board to replace this one with?

I got in on this combo here in Seattle. Nice retial chip, all is running great.
It was perfect as I was running a pentium 4 3.0 ghz with 1 gig ddr 400 and and a newish AGP video card. 170 for a processor upgrade is pretty sweet.

Is it worth it to upgrade to DDR2 533? 2 gigs for 170 at frys.com right now

2GB DDR2 PC4200 (533MHz), 128M x 64 Non-ECC 4-4-4 Unbuffered Kit (2x1GB) 240-Pin, Kingston ValueRam KVR533D2K2/2GR

Right now I just have 2 512 sticks (kingston valueram). Why does it not run dual channel and what does that mean for performance?

I would get this if they had one that accepts PCI_E video cards b/c that is all I have right now.

It's 3 weeks till Black Friday. Somebody, likely Fry's themself, will have a better deal on an E6300 combo.

Why in the world would you bump a month-old dead hot deals thread to ask this question?
(PS - I'll bet the ECS website has your answer.)

Frys does this about 2-3 times a month, bundling a low end C2Duo with that motherboard. You just have to wait until they advertise it. Since it didn't happen this weekend, I'd say it will definitely happen sometime before Christmas.

The price point has actually dropped - last week, They did an OEM E6300 + P4M800 Pro motherboard for $149.99

Of course its B&M, (NOT Fry.com/Outpost.com) so only a handful of us who have a Frys near by can jump on those deals.

As far as the Mobo, I've been using it for about 5 weeks now and its going well. I tried Overclocking it with no success (probably because of my ram), but for $149-$169, its probably the best bang for your buck in terms of upgrades.

Now can everyone not be so touchy about bumping a month old thread...after all, if a topic is a month old, and someone re-posts it, they hear a ton of crap about it. I got on this deal, and gave the mb to my brother. Cheap chip, throw-away motherboard.
