Ldir:

Well, I think that is partially true. He is a convenient scapegoat and kissing him goodbye has fewer political liabilities than kissing Rumsfeld goodbye.

But, Tenet was apparently willing to do almost anything to please his masters. He SHOULD have been complaining loudly about Bush's misuse of intel, but kept his mouth shut like a partisan would.

Also, with three reports coming out shortly with guns aimed directly at the CIA, one may reasonably assume that it would look better to resign before rather than after the reports appear.

Tenet bears a lot of responsibility for the screw up in Iraq, but ultimately it is the policy makers at the Pentagon and White House who were responsible. The buck stops with Bush, but he'll never take responsibility like a real man would. And that is one reason why I think Bush is among the weakest Presidents we've ever had.

Don Vito:

All that stuff about Carter micromanaging the White House was blown out of proportion in my view. Talk about long knives being out.... The Republican smear machine was working overtime to portray JC as the Devil and those stories were just downright petty. Carter is a great human being who was dealt a couple of bad cards. I don't think he is Woodrow Wilson, but he was better than Kennedy, Nixon, or this President.

Reagans People making a deal with the Iranians to hold the hostages until he was sworn in as President didn't help Carter's legacy either

True. Also telling the American People to lower their expectations regarding American Dream hurt him. Sometimes I wonder why these guys want the job, especially when things aren't going so well. Needless to say things went from bad to worse when Carter took over, not all of it really his fault.

won't really matter though, this SOB ain't gettin reelected!

he wasn't elected the first time round, this is bush policy.....the person with the most votes loses. i think he will find his way into a second term in office, regardless of the real voting figures.
