Bands use both. FB b/c it's bigger but MySpace allows a band to play their music thru on the page and the ability to customize their MySpace page.

Social Networking is only getting larger. The ability to connect with family/friends across the country and world is invaluable. Being able to see new pics of my nephew, what's going on with my friends in England wasn't as easy or accessible prior.

Similar to linkedin, I wish it was around sooner. Being able to stay in touch, contact colleagues from prior employers and network can be very useful.

Sure it may not be necessary for those that you are in constant contact with but for everything else...

Look up your fav bands, I bet a good majority have both and myspace has more songs (esp full versions of the song). Hell even popular bands will post full versions of their new album the day it drops (Disturbed and All That Remains in the past month come to mind) on myspace. Facebook can't compete except for status updates.

I've already added all my favorite bands to facebook. I know what their songs sound like - I don't need it to play when I visit their facebook page =P
 
I like facebook because of the fact that I can keep up to date with old high school friends and such. Just a few days ago, an old friend who moved away and I haven't seen in years posts that he's getting married. I congratulate him, catch up a little bit and he invites me to his wedding.

I recently uploaded a photo album from my European trip and my families and friends scattered all across the country can view the photos and comment.

It's not for everyone but it does have it's useful purposes. If you don't like it, just don't use it you don't really need to complain about it.

It's actually pretty awesome to hear an entire new album before it's released. I'm sure you can see the value in that unless you're an audio snob.

I guess it's different since all the bands I listen to are practically retired.
 
It is kinda too bad for all the various indie bands that are/were able use it as a homepage for their group. IMO, Facebook just isn't as good of an interface for a bandpage, but oh well.

These "kids these days" arguement is crap.

I'm right in that age range where I was socializing before and after social networks became huge. What's useful about facebook, etc is that you can get in contact with people you haven't heard from in years. Meet up with them and socialize, all thanks to a facebook account. It makes it easier than trying to track them down through phone books, friends of friends of friends, etc.

Also, Facebook can HELP in socializing, as in meeting new people from your school you may not have run into but share the same classes or interests with. When I was going to college we threw a a HUGE frat party to start the year off. You know how? By inviting EVERY SINGLE freshmen guy/girl we could find...ON FACEBOOK. Making a event invitation. TONS of people showed up. Insane party. Socialized. Met tons of people.

Facebook is simply a tool to HELP you socialize. Just cause the "socializing" is not done everyday on a face-to-face basis doesn't mean the kids on it don't know "how to socialize". It makes it easier to arrange those face-to-face meetings or keep in touch with your friends, organize an event or party to SOCIALIZE...even meet people you may have never met before unless you had a facebook. For example, let's say you met some awesome chick at a party the other night but got too drunk and lost her - go on facebook the next day find her in some pictures. Add as friend. Chat for a little. Invite to another party, or ask if she wants to grab some lunch, whatever. Facebook is comes in handy and can be very useful.

But, maybe you're right... the 500 million people on there don't know anything about socializing ...🙄

My friends all are people I see in real life every few days, I don't need to see pictures of them online. If they took some pics on a vacation or something I'll check them out when I'm over at their house. I don't have a single virtual friend, and since I see all my friends all the time I don't have a need to know what they're doing via the internet. I use a thing called the telephone and stopping by. It what's people use to do before teh interwebs. It works much better too, anything done face to face is always more personable, and I'm a people person so I'll take the personable route 10/10 times.

Lol well aren't you perfect? What do all your friends live in a 10 mile radius of your house? See, I have friends and family that are currently living in Australia, Beijing, California, etc...so instead of having phone conversations with them because of, you know, time differences and differing schedules I can send them a quick message to say whats up or even hit them up on facebook if I want to travel out there for a week or something. Better yet, I can organize an event for around Thanksgiving when everyone is usually home to meet up and party somewhere. Something that might have taken 30 phone calls to accomplish I did in the span of 2 minutes.

Whether you like to admit it, or not, facebook makes it easier to communicate and stay in touch with everyone you have had a friendly relationship with. There's no denying that.

People also didn't talk like "teh interwebs" before the internet...so I'm sure you'll catch on to facebook soon enough 😉

Only people in the ghetto still use MySpace, right?

Those horrible animated gifs, music, scripts. It's just so terrible.

Basically the reason Facebook is better (even though I don't use it):
1. Consistent UI (not customizable).
2. More of a medium to broadcast info about yourself vs. MySpace, which is more geared towards posting on other people's pages.
3. Better photo management.
 
That's a shame, it is a very good place for bands/musicians to present themselves. I browse through the music there allt he time and am able to hear songs from bands that otherwise would not have crossed my radar, or I could just catch up on bands I had not followed in a bit.

Like someone else already pointed out, it's all about HOW you use it. It in no way impedes anyone's ability for face to face social interaction, if anything it encourages it by giving you the easy ability to organize social events.

And why do I need to get face to face with someone just to say I like their new hair style? Your argument is ridiculous to begin with. Facebook sparks MORE social interaction, especially out of the typically anti-social because it helps people with anxiety.

All of you that hate Facebook don't have a fracking clue what it is used for. I don't know a single person on Facebook that isn't out meeting with friends DAILY. It's a tool. Like I said, you guys are treating it the opposite you'd treat Google, even though they are both the same thing. Facebook is more useful.

More useful than google?

While I don't have an issue with Facebook, and appreciate it's usefulness, I would not even put it in the category with google (or even youtube) as far as usefulness goes.

It's great for meeting people, and staying in touch with people, but I certainly get more use out of google. Far more.

Good for you but other's have friends and family in other parts of the country and in other countries. Plus, with people moving around all the time, it's nice to have a point of contact that never changes.
