"Thor" #1, in stores Wednesday, October 1, tells the story of how the Thor we all know from comic books and movies becomes unworthy of the hammer Mjolnir and is replaced by a woman.

Thor is a male. If a comic franchise wants a sex change for a fantasy character it's fine, but I'll not be following it anyway. If the movies require a rewrite they're going to need a lot of T&A to sell her and selling is all that matters. Feminism ain't the reason.

Everyone who has ever seen Robotech knows that females wear less armor because those are the only areas on their body that need protection. :hmm:

I like it, what's the problem with changing characters? There was always an "end" to the original Thor in the story since forever. He was never meant to be worthy forever. It was bound to happen, so why not a woman?

The people who don't like it, is it because of a change in general or the specific change?

What annoyes me about these type of changes is they stay a year or two tops. Same with someone being dead.


it's also a sign Marvel is in trouble. They had the idiotic story of peter being "killed" and his body taken over by DR. octopus. it was terrible (now peter is back). now they are changing Thor to a women, Captain America is now a black man (steve is an old man now) and they are killing off Wolverine.

They are trying to transition to new characters, rebuilding their house as it were. I'm pretty sure this is all in line with an extended movie vision.

You can't keep rolling out new Wolverine movies.

It's risky for sure, but they have a new captive audience with the success of the movie franchise. That doesn't mean they are in trouble by any means. I'd rather a company try to stay fresh than release another Spiderman rehash. Do you like reboots? This avoids it.

Further, I really like that they have a vision at all. They aren't looking at their next release, they are looking at their next 10 years worth. They have a fucking 10 year plan. What company does that these days?

Yes, I totally understand the frustration when they kill a character, then bring him back because it didn't work. It's slightly better with this story because there's an easy way back. He becomes worthy again. It's not like he's dead, and they have to retcon it back in.

Is the writing upside-down on the hammer solely so that when it's dropped people can read the challenge and decide if they want to partake in testing their worthiness? That irks me. If I wielded Mjolnir, I'd be pissed off that the writing was constantly upside-down.
