Is the writing upside-down on the hammer solely so that when it's dropped people can read the challenge and decide if they want to partake in testing their worthiness? That irks me. If I wielded Mjolnir, I'd be pissed off that the writing was constantly upside-down.

Kinda.. you get the distinct impression on who it is but they didn't directly show you. My guess is they're going to attempt to drag it out a bit like Red Hulk.

Now, they might try and milk it while Thor attempts to get his shit together (regrow his arm and deal with whatever Fury told him), but Thor will be back to Thor. I am guessing he will probably end up not needing Mjolnir to rule Asguard and this new Thor might take his place for awhile. I thought they did away with the whole "Thor is whoever holds the hammer and when not holding it, is a regular dude" stuff anyway.

That's one area I was thrown.. how can the new Thor say "there must always be a Thor" when Thor's still around. I get what Marvel's doing but the way they're going about it is off. Much like when the made SpOck, they can't help but build something new by ripping the heart out of what was.. and will be again.

He doesn't become Donald Blake, but he still needs to actively wield Mjolnir/be worthy to have any powers.

I thought that wasn't the real Thor anyway. I remember Adam Warlock hinting Thor (the Donald Blake version) was an impostor in the Infinity Gauntlet. I haven't kept too much up on the entire arch, or the Ultimate characters, so who knows.

Because, the hammer is to be read by those attempting to wield it, not those already wielding it. And, since it doesn't stand on it's handle, why would it be facing that way?

That was Eric Masterson, who went on to become Thunderstrike. That's the one thing about this mess that amuses me, people act like Marvel hasn't replaced Thor a few times in the past. This time they're just legitimizing the Cosplayers gender bending.
