he must live in a freedom hating state.

This, pretty much. I know NYS has the hardest state CCW permits to get, though they allow for "on premises" licenses. Same applies even to jobs that handle firearms. Either way the process takes half a year.

I bought just about every firearm that I own over the internet, either from an auction or dealer. I found a couple of 99% used sigs for about $250 under "new" sticker" and they basically looked brand new.

Illinois issues Firearm Owner ID (FOID's) to be able to purchase a firearm. And no, we CANNOT carry in this state.

🙄

Wisconsin and Illinois have the same problem.
Because of the bullshit in ONE major metropolitan area people in the whole state have to suffer.

The only problem I see with this, is that a lot of internet dealers will not accept an FFL unless it's signed in ink. This is why most individuals/businesses that have an FFL will scan it before it's signed, and keep their original signed copy in a safe somewhere. When a dealer needs a copy of their FFL, they sign one that they print out from their scan, and then sign that one in ink, and mail it to the dealer.

I know when I bought firearms through the mail, that's the way they had to do it. Been a while since I've gone that route, but back in the 90's, when I was buying over the internet, they'd charge $25 for a pistol, $35 for a rifle or shotgun, for the use of their FFL. Seeing as the license costs them something like $300 every 3 years, it's a way for them to get some of their money back, on a sale they didn't really make (just the transfer).

OP, you might ask around, depending on where you live, and find out if anyone knows someone with an FFL. I didn't realize until recently that a couple people I work with have them. :awe:
Not really true anymore. The original is never signed. They scan it and sign copies to send to other dealers/suppliers. A couple years ago the BATFE decided that dealer FFL's could be faxed but a C&R FFL (mentioned above) must be sent through snail mail with a signature in ink.

(I am a C&R holder)

ok...lets get mildly back on topic

What about concealed carry holsters? I've basically decided on a Glock 23 unless I get sold on something else first. I am liking the IWB holsters. Does anyone have any input on what to look for there?

Galco (http://www.usgalco.com/default.asp) makes some of the best holsters I've ever used, best thing to look for is one that doesn't collapse when you draw, it makes it a lot easier to reholster...

Really depends on how you want to carry it. I have a Minotaur IWB from here That I love.

Can anyone recommend a "craigslist" for guns?

It really annoys me that they are not allowed on craigslist.

You're specifically looking for used, or you're just looking for good prices?

If good prices, then you might hit up the Fatwallet forums for Hot Deals and search. http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/firearms-ammunition/

There several threads every week (almost every day) with posting for good deals on guns. I don't really get into it much, but I often see a place called Bud's Gun Shop and another place called Jet Guns coming up.

Take a look.

I bought a handgun(S&W 686) from Cabelas, and they let me carry it out the door in a sack within 10 minutes of purchasing. Didn't even have a case(bought from used section).

FYI, the gun cost me $0 b/c I had enough points on my cabelas card(balance paid monthly ATOT).

They let you carry it without an escort? When I bought a gun from them, they escorted me out of the store and handed it to me once we got outside.

They do this with long guns too.

Ah, ok. I was wondering if you were going to shoot your baby mama, or something.

lol no

But she does live in the ghetto and driving down there really makes me wish I was carrying. Its the type of neighborhood you would leave your car running in if you wanted it stolen.

They handed it to me at the register. I walked out with it unescorted.

What's even sillier is that only a couple hours east of you in Indiana (where I'm at) only requires an in-state drivers license. Unfotunately you have to retake the driving test to get a license here, so I'm currently unable to gun shop. 🙁

California is especially bad about this. They'll charge you for both DROS and NICS check. Its ridiculous that people are willing to pay for it.

"Willingness to pay" is neither here or there. You either pay or you run around until you find the dealer with the best deal. With gas at >$3.00 per gallon, you do what you have to do. 🙄

Getting a drivers license here is harder than buying a gun or getting a CCW.
