I'm planning to, maybe not this week but very soon. Initially I wanted to go for 939 but since AM2 is here why should I go for 939.. Currently the performance is about the same and will probably get better in the long run. Plus, if I go with AM2 I will probably have more time to upgrade my AM2 CPU in the future. Not to mention all NF5 boards have passive cooling (very important to me), which gives me a lot more options.

edit: Ahh, forgot to say. I'm coming from a 5 1/2 year old Socket A 2000+ so either way I'm taking an amazing leap forward..

If I was building a new rig then might as well go with AM2 instead of s939. But I'll be keeping my s939 for at least another year, so no reason to get AM2 in my case.

I'm waiting to see how Conroe looks compared to AM2 in actual benchmarks first before I buy. I also want to know how well they each overclock. And of course there is the pricing to consider. I'm thinking Intel and AMD will have some price changes by then. Waiting a couple more months wont hurt me none.

I'm sure AMD will be on a new socket by teh time i consider switching from Core 2 Duo...

I have a compelling X2 4400+ s939-based workstation for what I do, so I don't think I need to upgrade right away. Besides, being a college student, I doubt I'd be able to upgrade any time within the next few years even if I wanted to.

If I build a new rig, then most likely; right now all my computers are AXP-era, so nothing's going to carry over - that is, except for my P-M laptop, which obviously doesn't affect anything. Bottom line: if they prove to be good OCers with decent, inexpensive motherboards available, why not? DDR2 uses less power and has better latency and bandwidth per the AT review, so why not? Then again, "Conroe" is coming, so I'll likely keep waiting.

AM2 isn't worth buying unless ... you wishing for an upgrade path from sempy 64 all the way up to a possible quad CPU later next year ... it's an excellent platform for a long stream of upgrades.

Anand mentioned it and Kyle from Hard said the same thing. I think it is 65nm with L3 cache.

The only people that would buy an AM2 is people that go to Circuit City or Best Buy. Where is the performance difference??????? Anybody that upgrades from a 939 to a AM2 must be nuts..( at least until there is some "real performance gain") I was hoping to upgrade from my 754... no fnnn way. Two things did not happen 1. AM2 no performance gain 2. 939s prices have not dropped...Bring it on Intel
