I just don't understand the perpetual hard on people have with guns.

I don't understand the perpetual hard on anti-gun people have with spouting their unwanted opinion everywhere they go, espcially in threads specifically dealing with people who like guns.

Federal Firearms License (in this case an FFL01 license). You can't buy a gun from a dealer without one.

Basically to go to a local gun dealer who sends a copy of their license to the company you want to buy the gun from. You pay that company for the gun then they ship it to your dealer who handles the transfer forms, usually for a relatively small fee, then you get your gun.

Which gun would you guys say has more modding capability? I would have tohught the AK since it's been around longer and is no doubt more prevalent in the world but it looks like there is just so much more diversity in the AR-15's... stocks, barrels, grips, etc...

That may be another deciding factor for me

AR by far.

These are both semi-automatic. Automatic weapons though you can purchase if you have a special license... I imagine it is very difficult to get such a license thought!

LMAO that's what I thought too.....I'd take the AR-15....it just looks sexy.......only a wanksta would pick an AK

The AK-47 is one of the most reliable, foolproof military assault weapons ever made. Only an idiot would argue otherwise.

That said, I'd get the AR-15.

They are semi-auto and thus completely legal in all but a couple states.

Depends on who this is for. I wouldn't want my younger son firing an AK47 until he was at least 12 but an AR-15 I'd consider giving to him at a slightly younger age. If the gun is just for you, I think you'll find more enjoyment with an AR-15 recreationally. But if you are getting this gun for home defense, the reliability and power of an AK47 will be your best bet.

home defense??? WTF is attacking you guys' homes? Mastadons?

An AR-15 would be useless against a mastadon.

The AR-15 shoots .223 which is used for hunting. Ammo is readily available. Besides, the civilian version is semi-auto only, same with the AK-47 which shoots 7.62x39mm (a largely military round but no more powerful than a .308-in fact, it is less powerful).

I have both and they each have advantages over the other. I prefer my M4gery over the AK. It is a lot more accurate but I need to clean it after each time I use it. The AK I can get away with not cleaning after a few. .223 is a little more expensive to. I say try to shoot both and see what one you like better. I have had friends that like one over an other so I can?t say what you will like more. Have fun.

I would say neither. I'd much rather have a handgun and get really good with it. You could always get a concealed handgun license and carry it around with you too.

I'm not a gun expert..

Using an AK-47 for home defense, isn't this a bad idea if you have neighbors within a mile of your house ?

Is that true? You can actually get a conealed handgun license and walk around the streets with one hidden in your coat? Kinda scary.

i picked the AK47 for if my life counted on it...granted the AR is cool with all the toys you can put on it. but i firmly believe in less is best. if you can hit something at 200 yards with the AK with iron sights as it was designed to be then the AK is the best choice.

In many states, yes.

I don't see why it is scary. These are the most tightly regulated licenses outside of those who deal in NFA weapons.

Yeah I would love to own a Glock, it's alot of fun shooting at the indoor ranges too. But I live in Westchester county, NY... right outside NYC. It is a big hassle to own a handgun here... owning a rifle is not as bad
