I about to buy a Lincoln LS and I need help choosing between the two, please don't reply if you are going to tell me I should be buying a Honda or similar.

here are the spec's on the two:

2001 V8 (3.9L) $20,300
4000 miles
basic package / cassette
warranty expires 2/20/05
xtend warranty till 2007 $2400

2002 V6 (3.0L) $21,000
31000 miles
Sport pkg (17"wheels/pow sunroof/handling pkg/anti-slip)
warranty expires 7/30/05
xtend warranty till 2007 $1730

I drive 20-25k a year.

EDIT: Whoops, needed prices

V8 model... I don't know anything about the reliability of the two models, but the V8 has a LOT less miles and is cheaper.. oh I didn't see the stereo... Do you want the sport package, etc?

ouch tough choice

I would say you should really get the V8 if you can find one, but the car with the V6 has all the goodies on it.
I guess you just need to drive both and see if the V6 will fit your needs.

I myself would wait to find one with a V8 and all the goodies.

I'm 35 and a metro detroit salesman, so comfort, an american car (don't start with me) and some power are all important things to me.

you should look some more. I found some VERY reasonablely priced ones a few months ago in Metro Detroit. I required V8 with premium package and was finding them for $15k or less. :D

Really? from a dealership or from private?

Old man's car? The LS was targetted towards a younger audience, and they sure hit home with me. I have a neighbor who works for the Holman Conglomerate and there is always a shiny LS out front of his house, and it is really, really sharp.

I think the one with lower mileage, lower price and V8 is the preferable one, but it kinda sucks to not have the extras.

For what you are looking for, a Cadillac sounds more appropriate than an LS. Don't go to a dealer either.

I'd go for the 2001. Only 4K miles is great, unless the odometer's been tampered. Who's the owner--an old lady? V8 could be a gas hog.

Any big changes between 2001 and 2002 models?

I would like the better gas milage and all the goodies (sunroofs look great on these cars) but 4000 miles is new to me.

This is a terrible decision, I got married with less thought.

I would view a 27k mile difference as an extra year of life for $700 less. Is the V8 that much less fuel efficient that you would lose $700 in one year? I doubt it.

The sunroof is nice, though hehee

private. Dealers have too much of a mark-up.

I am forced to use a dealer for reasons I would rather not go into (nothing illegal) :( , does anyone have any personal experience with a LS?

i remember a car and driver review where they said this car was targetted at the 5 series buyers...

the V6 is quite underpowered, it does fine for normal driving, but if you really want power to keep up with the bmw 5 series you need the v8.

As for changes, i dont know which year, maybe 2003, but they got a orange indicator out back not a red one. Just changed the plastic on the back that's all i noticed.

I would say get teh V6 if your just driving from place to place. THe v8 is more powerful (supposed to compete with the 540i) but i think the v6 will do good.

The V8 is more powerful but it still isn't in the same league as the 540i.

I've driven the car (can't remember if it was V8 or V6 though-it was a rental) and it was a nice car but had a few annoying rattles and it does project an 'old person' car aura.

I think you should buy a Honda. :D
