I saw that, but considering the bike, I don't trust their copy. Braking with a fixie is essentially pedaling backwards. Who knows who wrote it and knows what a coaster is.

Coaster brakes are OLD tech...Growing up in the 50's and 60's, MOST of my bikes had coaster brakes...NO, you didn't have to pedal the entire time...you pedaled until you got to the speed you wanted...or got tired, stopped pedaling. The pedals stopped with you. To stop, you simply applied reverse pressure on the pedals...it's not quite "pedaling backwards." (something you can't do with coaster brakes like you would on a freewheel bike.)

Well, all they make is bikes and they wrote

  • Gear: 42t Crank with 22t Coaster Style Cog for cruising
Also if you look up the cog they sell it says freewheel, so I'd assume they know what they're writing.

So I went to the local BMX shop to look at accessories and the owner let test ride a 27" BMX, which I figure is as close to what I ordered as I'll find. Outside of styling they're the same bike. Only did 4 laps around the parking lot so I can't say much. I loved it, but he commented that riding for 2 minutes is very different than riding for 30 minutes plus. He's a BMX guy and he loves single speed 27" bikes.

The test ride told me nothing except the bike was awesome for 120 seconds. He did comment that my knees might suffer for awhile at 1st. Overall I think a 2 minute ride was not a good idea, I should have asked if he rented them and spent an hour riding.

Just get something faster, this looks like it would be an absolute blast to ride - Road Runner Tronic. Top speed of 65mph, I'd be terrified to go even 50 on something that small with 14" tires. But it would probably be awesome at 30-40mph. They also have a pro version that "only" goes 50mph. I'm pondering the regular version over the ebike I'm looking at, 35mph on a tiny scooter like that would probably feel so fast and be a ton of fun.
Why did you only go 2 minutes??? I agree that you won't learn anything with that short time. Before I bought my current bike, I took it for a 45 minute ride. When I returned to the shop, I told my guy to ring it up! It was such an improvement over my old bike from the 90's.

He was just being a nice guy, he knew I'd already ordered a bike so there was no chance of getting a sale from me. At best I was going to buy some Tannus inserts and tubes from him.
