buy.com shipping rant/question

I ordered a wall mount for my plasma from buy.com last week. Item shipped out standard UPS ground for delivery on Friday. I track the shipment Friday, expecting to see "Out for Delivery" but its still listed in Orlando, and we're in Tampa. SO I call UPS and ask about it, and they say the tracking info must not be updated yet, and since the expected delivery date is still Friday, it will be there that day.

6:30 pm, I call and ask for status, they say it will still be delivered, and the driver has until 7pm. I still see the last scan is in Orlando, but I think ok, they must know better than me. So at 7pm when it doesn't arrive, suddenly the delivery date has been changed to Monday. They say it must have gotten stuck somewhere. The UPS rep suggested to contact the seller/shipper and they will refund the shipping charges.

So I email buy.com yesterday after its delivered and say that UPS missed their date and to please request a refund from UPS and credit me back for shipping. Today I get an email from buy.com saying that the unit arrived within the standard 7 days and they would not refund shipping.

What do you guys think? Worth it to try to dispute a portion of the charge with my credit card company? Am I being a d*ck?

I think you are whining. The item arrived within stated guidelines. UPS gives an ESTIMATED delivery date--not a guaranteed delivery. Unless, of course, you paid for next day or 2-day delivery. Did you? No...you shipped ground. Quit crying about it.

Agreed. You really don't have a leg to stand on, OP.

Fair enough. Just curious, why will UPS refund shipping charges for missing estimated delivery dates?

I didn't know they did. Is this a new policy?

I'm going to call UPS again, just to verify. But yes, that's what the rep on Friday night said.

It wouldn't have been SO bad had I not asked my friend to come by and help me get the plasma up on the mount. Granted, I called him as soon as I know it wasn't coming, but I think he still had already slotted the time on Saturday for me and ended up missing out on doing something else.

Again, I'm not really blaming buy.com for any of the shipping delays. I do blame them, however, for being able to get a refund on the shipping and chosing not to do it for a long time customer.

What makes you think they could get a refund on the shipping? You paid for the least expensive delivery option and your item was delivered intact within a time period reasonable for the chosen shipping method. Just because UPS screwed up their initial delivery date estimate does not make you entitled to anything.

If you want a guaranteed delivery date, pony up the extra cash for the better option.

They only will for guaranteed shipping times. If you pay for overnight or 2 day (and it must save guaranteed), then you'd have something to complain about.

Not only that, but I think before you can even track anything on UPS's website you have to agree to a terms and conditions thing, which probably has a disclaimer.
