The problem with this is that not linking it means that you are forcing people who *don't* want to see it to have to look at it. If you don't care enough to click a link to look at the information... clearly you don't really care.

Now 50 lines would be a bit much, but I can live with 16. :)

Most posts are smaller than 16 lines (often MUCH smaller). Really, really long signatures make threads require a lot more scrolling than they otherwise would. Personally, I think they should limit it to no more than 4-5 lines, but they haven't.

Anyhow, WRT buy.com: the only real 'problem' I've had with them is that I bought an item with a rebate -- and it turns out they were advertising the rebate before it was valid! My rebate got rejected because I bought the item before the rebate officially started, yet they were already advertising the reduced price. Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me. I'll definitely look at any offers from there MUCH more carefully from now on.

Cancelling your order is pretty lame -- but I doubt there is much you can do directly, as long as they refunded your money. Their terms and conditions, while scummy, are clear, and almost ANY store has a 'we can cancel your order at any time for any reason and refund your money' clause of some sort. If you press the issue legally, they might just turn around and claim it was a pricing mistake or something like that, and good luck proving otherwise.

However, you should: complain to them, complain to the BBB and your state AG, write them up on resellerratings, tell people not to shop there, and tell THEM (see if you can get a name/address and send someone an actual letter via certified mail rather than an email) that you're telling people not to shop there because of your experience.

Of course you could know a friend or family member who could represent you for cheap/free, etc etc. I appreciate you sharing this story as it will definitely make me think twice about dealing with buy.com, but the majority of messages like this get everyone riled up crying foul and telling the OP to litigate and sue them for millions civil rights blah blah blah and in the end nothing happens. Time generally makes these things go away. I doubt that in a month or two you will feel as strongly as you do about this now - it's just human nature.

Please don't take this as a lack of sympathy - because it sucks that companies do this stuff - but if they haven't charged you for the item there really isn't a thing you can do. End of story.

It's sad to say that I actually agree with your comments. They're on point, but that doesn't dismiss the bad business practices involving this product. A company cannot advertise a product at a specified price, confirm your order, cancel your order & place the item back on the shelf at a higher price. If a company raises their prices, that's one thing, but to do it in front of your face after you've already made your purchase, & tell you to pay the higher price, that's an entirely different story.

If I were one of the consumers affected by this dishonest business practice, I would head straight to the Better Business Bureau website & file a complaint immediately. I would include all of the details of my situation regarding this purchase. I would also include the details of my conversations with customer service & how they were unwilling to find a resolution.

I've already done the leg work for you. BBB Complaint Form for Buy.com

Remember, we are the consumers & we deserve to be treated with integrity & respect. If we don't take action, nothing will change.

I'll tell you this, if Buy.com as a company wants to ignore this problem, that's one thing, but having 15 - 20 complaints reported to BBB in a matter of a few days, that's another. That will raise red flags somewhere.

Nice to see there is someone still here that remembers the WMC saga. I was one of the WMC, although I was not vocal about it.

Just shows the dishonesty in retail stores today. that is a bunch of @#^#! That is unethical and I would definetly fill out that form, and encourage everyone else who this happened to, to do the same. And boycott their store for about the rest of your life. I know I won't be buying from them.

That's good to hear. I'm hoping everyone who has experienced this problem will file a complaint.

Did you post a similar in the brag & moan subforum of hot deals? Might be a good place to find more people affected by this and get them to file a complaint as well.

Sorry to hear about your order OP. I learned awhile back that it's not worth it to deal with buy.com. They list things in stock for days after is goes OOS, they cancel orders like no other, etc. Give them a negative review on RR, never shop there again, and advise others to avoid them as well.
