I ordered an Opteron OEM 146 for 142+5 dollars shipping, so $147.
This was like a week ago, two days before they increased prices to $230.
I have my receipt and everything. When I emailed them to ask when I would get my processor they said that they recommend that I cancel because I'm going to be waiting. Now, a week later they just cancelled my order.

!!What should I do???????? I will have to pay over $70 bucks more now.

yah' i just called them and they said they were unable to fill my order.
- i bought it and was put on backorder. The East Indian cust. service rep just kept repeating that "we are sorry we are unable to fill your order"
- when i asked him if they are getting in any more stock at all he dodged the question.
me: i said " so you aren't getting any more in stock"
him: he didn't answer my question
me: i asked the same thing
him: dodge again
me: if you get new stock in will i have to pay the new price?
him: you will have to pay the price when you buy it again

- so i what i think is that they are getting new stock in, but don't want to sell it to me at that price that i bought it at

yah I bought it at the lower price, then a day or two later they jacked up the price and cancelled my order for the cheaper price.
then they couldn't explain why.

a good plan

When they hang up on you demand to speak to thier line manager, ask for names at every point.

i would advise that you talk to the manager of the cust service dudes and if they still haggle you, then insist on them giving you the number to headquarters so you can yell at them. that's the way to go. i've worked in customer service long enough to know how it works. the people telling you the bullsh!t excuses just want an easy way out in hopes that you just give up. trust me, i've had to do that before too.

Ok i did what you said mik3y. When I talked to the customer rep. he at said the same thing as the last rep. and he said that if he transfers me to managment then i would have to be on hold because the managers were all busy. he transfered me and i didn't wait at all. Then the manager said she could not transfer me to anyone above her. Then she was saying that she was like doing me a favor because "you would have to wait a long time". So they are getting more in!!!!! When I asked her why they cancelled my order when i could have waited and cancelled my own order she dodged.

then when she was saying thank you for calling i said bye and hung up - only to realize that she was saying something else afterwards that i accidentally hung up on.

ok, time to go angry on them. they're just trying to avoid you, so i would start threatening them with a lawsuit or something. that way, they'll have to force higher ranked reps to talk to you. the fact that you ordered something, they cancelled your order, and want you to reorder it at a higher price is really unfair. Also, she practically lied to you saying that they wouldnt get any more in when they, in fact, do get more in. Their techniques in sales are unethical. I've only ordered a couple of things from buy.com, but the only problem i've had with them is that they are hella slow. you have proof with your reciept that you're not BSing it up, so dont give up yet. $70 could buy you a top end cpu cooler that'll even bring more $'s worth to that processor if you overclock.

Did you bother to check out buy.com at resellerratings.com? I don't deal with anyone that has less than an 8...

First I'd read their "Terms & Conditions" fine print and if they don't leave themselves an out in there, I'd get my documentation together and foward copies with cover letters to the Better Business Bureau in their zone and the Consumer Protection agency in their state (if there is no CP agency, then direct to the state Attorney General's office).

8. Order Acceptance Policy. Your receipt of an electronic or other form of order confirmation does not signify our acceptance of your order, nor does it constitute confirmation of our offer to sell. Buy.com reserves the right at any time after receipt of your order to accept or decline your order for any reason. Buy.com further reserves the right any time after receipt of your order, without prior notice to you, to supply less than the quantity you ordered of any item. Your order will be deemed accepted by Buy.com upon shipment of products or performance of services that you have ordered, or upon the completion of the license and delivery of a Digital Download, as indicated by our servers.

= unethical. still gonna find out about Better Business Bureau and Consumer Protection Agency - thanks Zepper

I have found the BBB to be ineffective in most situations. As Zepper also mentioned, contact your state A.G. for real action.

I concur. I bet their defensive strategy will be that everything was listed in the contract that you were supposedly supposed read and agree with. I'm in a Business Law & Ethics class and my professor is a really good business lawyer. I'll talk to him the next time I see him and ask him about any legal issues that might be involved with Buy.com's unethical practices. I'm really interested to see where this whole issue will lead to. Keep us updated. I'll try to see if I can help somehow.
