It rings a lot more true than "buy pot and you support terrorism"

So your roomate supports terrorism too, look at hayabusa's posts to see the logic. I do agree that the title is selective though, as buying any gas supports terrorismOriginally posted by: Ameeshwhatever my roomates IS300 gets the SAME gas milage as V8 4x4 Explorer does. with that kind of stupid logic everyone would be driving hybrid civicsOriginally posted by: tweakmm It rings a lot more true than "buy pot and you support terrorism"
A 30% increase in clock speed or UT2003 FPS would grab your attention, so why not a 30% difference in city MPG?Originally posted by: NFS4
Also, the best selling SUV in America gets 15/21 city/highway. The Dodge Caravan (best selling minivan) gets 18/25.
Are they REALLY busting our balls over a few MPG?

well they have a point... we do need to find alternative sources of energy to reduce our oil dependency.
http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/usa.htmlThe United States averaged total gross oil (crude and products) imports of an estimated 11.2 MMBD during the first nine months of 2002, representing around 57% of total U.S. oil demand. Around two-fifths of this oil came from OPEC nations, with Persian Gulf sources accounting for about one-fifth of total U.S. oil imports. Overall, the top suppliers of oil to the United States during the first nine months of 2002 were Canada (1.9 MMBD), Saudi Arabia (1.5 MMBD), Mexico (1.5 MMBD), and Venezuela (1.4 MMBD).

Also, maintaining our oil supply has already been declared a matter of National Security (as an excuse to drill in ANWR) so reducing our consumption should (in a shiny happy logical world) be given equal weight.
😱 oops! and d'oh! but a 20% increase in clockspeed or video card benches or vehicle MPG is still nothing to take lightly.Originally posted by: NFS4

1) I don't play UT2003, it's mindless, stupid shooting
2) It's 20%, not 30%

Burning large amounts of fossil fuels supports Middle East economies
and
SUV's burn large amounts of fuel
and
those economies who provide the fuel support terrorism, or their economy allows support to happen,
then what would be the logical conclusion?

Thats the desired relationship but its really more like this. If you burn ANY amount of gas you can be considered a terrorist. Standing before a judge the conversation would be something like this. Judge: "You all are guilty of terrorism, every one of you that mows your lawn, rides in your boat, or uses a vehicle that burns gas for anything." Lady who traded in her SUV: "But Ma'am, I am much less of a terrorist than these other freaks. I only burned 3 gallons of gas on my way to work today while they burned a whole 4.8 gallons. Those HEATHENS!!!!!" Judge: "Who cares, a terrorist is a terrorist. OFF WITH YOUR HEADS!!!!!"Originally posted by: Hayabusarider Didnt bother to read the article through, but if it says that Burning large amounts of fossil fuels supports Middle East economies and SUV's burn large amounts of fuel and those economies who provide the fuel support terrorism, or their economy allows support to happen, then what would be the logical conclusion?

Yes, when you buy gas, regardless how much, part of your money goes to countries like Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia uses that money to spread the word of wahabbism, whose followers include Bin-Laden. This money also allowes Saudis and others to make "donations" to certain groups, and eventually this money gets into hands of terrorists who use it to buy weapons and train. Now that doesn't make you a terrorist any more than buying Chinese goods makes you a communist sympathiser. But you are indirectly supporting terrorism, and should be aware of it. Now if someone would make the same connection between pot and terrorism I would appreciate it. The administration was just asking for this when they came out with these lame ads.

He and I are both having difficulty finding work in the last few months. And, in my case, at least one job was filled by someone with an H-1B over me. :disgust:

I lost all hope of this happening in the near future when Bush was elected

That's right. I wouldn't just pick on SUV's. But the more gas you use, the more you contribute to this problem. It is something to be aware of.
Huffington, who swapped her Lincoln Navigator for a Toyota Prius hybrid, suggests it is downright unpatriotic to tool around in an SUV while the United States is fighting global terrorism.
