If one were to form a company(s) and hire intelligently I'd think it would be totally possible to buy up huge swathes of contiguous property for almost nothing, demolish everything standing, and sit on the property for however long it takes for the state to pull it's head out of it's ass.

There is a reason Detroit has been named Murder City. Between Detroit, Flint, and Ponticrack, I wouldn't be caught dead there without my carrying my handgun.

Detroits epic shithole has been cancerously eeating at this state, maybe it will fall off into the water like california needs to do.

Amen. There are some bad spots everywhere, but Detroit takes the cake. Something we can all agree on.

It might be $1 for the house, but once you figure in armed guards, needing a police escort to walk outside and get the mail, and a few armored cars to go to the grocery store in, it'll get significantly more expensive. :)

I almost don't believe it and would have to see with my own eyes that an actual city in the US can get to such a state. I suppose what I'm saying is I'd love to tour the worst parts of Detroit in an armed convoy of Loomis trucks.

I had the great fortune of having to drive through Detroit on occasion for appointments. It was scary but we had to take turns driving so the other person could gawk at the sad state of repairs the city is in.

I remember one particular moment when I saw an apartment complex that had 90% of its windows boarded up and one of the buildings was literally falling down with orage construction tape around it. There were even holes in the wall where air conditioner units had either fallen out or were stolen. I then remarked "Hey! Look at that condemed place!" and no sooner had I said that then we passed a large banner proclaiming "NOW LEASING FIRST MONTH FREE!" :Q

I thought the same. Problem is with Detroit's city council you can bet cries of "Gentrification!" would be heard as soon as the paperwork for the bulldozing was submitted.

Yeah, but I bet there is a good chance they would be open to bribes. Come in to town, buy the property cheap, and buy the city council too. You still have to compete with slave labor countries if you set up a manufacturing business.

As long as you hold all the deeds and nothing is insured I don't see any problems that some bottles of gasoline, a box of dirty rags, and a decent law firm on retainer can't solve.

No matter how much a shithole Detroit might be, you can't Build a house for these Prices. There would certainly be a risk and I suspect whole neighbourhoods would need to be bought up before the situation could be improved, but I seriously doubt Detroit will turn into a Ghost Town. There's a lot of Opportunity here and Politics can change quickly.

I connected through detroit a couple times this weekend.

I was shocked at how nice the airport was. I'd think that they would have better things to spend the money on.

I love the city council link. Tell the whites to go home, than bitch when no industry comes to town. Fucking idiots.

(Not saying blacks don't have money to set up industry, but the council is just acting anti-business, no businessman black or white is going to save this town when the government is more or less being racist against an entire segment of potential customers/suppliers/business).

I didn't notice the link to the council until you mentioned this. WTF!? How is open racism like that allowed in a public official? Can you imagine if this were reversed?

Well if your not white, you cant be racist. Or so the logic go's.

Another sad thing about those houses. When they were brand new, someone was very proud of them and kept them and the neighborhood up. Several generations of children were raised in those houses when they were happier places.

Another gem in Detroit

what a sad shame, but I guess that's what you get with an uneducated population. man, I can't see Detroit getting any better, ever.
