I was shocked at how nice the airport was. I'd think that they would have better things to spend the money on.

If you connected through Detroit Metro Airport, you were 10+ miles from Detroit.

Market Value: $53,438.00

Plus figure in back taxes and water bill (if you want them to turn it back on...)

somehow this seems appropriate

That's why the city is filled with a bunch of fuckin idiots still (still)
That's why the first motherfucker poppin some shit he gets killed (killed)
That's why we don't call it Detroit, we call it Amityville ('Ville)
You can get capped after just havin a cavity filled (filled)
Ahahahaha, that's why we're crowned the murder capital still (still)
This ain't Detroit, this is motherfuckin Hamburger Hill! (Hill!)
We don't do drivebys, we park in front of houses and shoot
and when the police come we fuckin shoot it out with them too!
That's the mentality here (here) that's the reality here (here)
Did I just hear somebody say they wanna challenge me here?? (huh?)
While I'm holdin a pistol with this many calibres here?? (here??)
Got some registration and just made this shit valid this year? (year?)
Cause once I snap I can't be held accountable for my actions
and that's when accidents happen,
when a thousand bullets come at your house
and collapse the foundation around you and they found you
and your family in it (AHHHHH!)
GOD damn IT HE MEANT IT WHEN HE TELLS YOU

1)Buy a whole bunch of houses in Detroit for $5000
2)Get a bunch of trucks (with burly, armed truckers driving them)
3)Saw the houses into halves, quarters, whatever, and put them on the trucks
4)Ship them to a nice expensive market that still has undeveloped properties on the fringes
5)Install quite nice, well-constructed, classy brick houses and make MEELLIONS!!!

I'm wondering, is it the leadership vacuum from the Mayor going to jail or is it the fact that what little wealth the city has dried up with the auto crisis, but some on the council are losing it.

These photographs look like the levels in STALKER...only with more trash everywhere.

A lot of people seem to forget you have to pay property taxes on these dumps. It might be funny to own a crappy house that you never visit because you don't want to be stabbed in the kidney with a screw driver, but it won't be funny paying taxes on it. A house you can't live in is worth less than nothing.

If you had a squad of goons and a trailer maybe you could uproot the house and move it to somewhere that doesn't suck. Of course, the plumbing has probably all been stolen and the floors are stained with bum urine.

Wouldn't everyone sane have packed up their shit and left by now?

Wait, we are missing an opportunity here. All we have to do is make a movie script, word for word, of their council meetings. Now, should we make it a tragedy or comedy?

There is a reason Detroit has been named Murder City. Between Detroit, Flint, and Ponticrack, I wouldn't be caught dead there without my carrying my handgun.

Detroits epic shithole has been cancerously eeating at this state, maybe it will fall off into the water like california needs to do.
Maybe should visit California to really understand what a shit hole Michigan is.

Michigan may be a shithole in areas, but it hasn't produced so many morons that introduce communist type laws or groups that are bringing this country to it's knees of pussification.

A lot of sane intelligent hard working people are hampered by the environment they are born into, others make bad choices that doom them for years, and still others are bound by emotional attachments to the neighborhoods they were raised in.

I actually live in an area 20 miles west of Detroit that is a haven for Detroiters that have had the wherewithal to escape the city. In some respects the economic downturn that all of SE Michigan has seen over the last 8 years has cleansed out some of the bad elements in my area. Now, I live in an area that is both racially diverse and a good place to live.

Man I don't miss living in Detroit.. or Canton OH. Denver has spoiled me ;)

These houses haven't been worth much for a long time and even more and more business's are going away. If someone was to make a killing on these properties it would take a VERY long time. Honestly OH was a shithole when I left in the 80's and Detroit was a shithole when I left in the late 90's... they are still shitholes. How long do you guys want to hold out to make money?

wow, that town needs a tornado to come through and clean things up.

Really a shame, since the architecture/style of alot of those homes built in the late 1800's/1st half 1900's is beautiful

how much would they tax you on a $1 house?

if you purchase it, will you get the $16000 credit on your tax?

we should do a anandtech group buy on like 3 square blocks.

That is very likely what will happen, if prices get cheap enough (they may be already).

Build an exclusive fenced AT neighborhood.

Odds are that if you buy one of those properties, you'd have to pay all sorts of back taxes, fees, etc etc, then the city would come after you for code violations of one sort or another, and then you'd likely get sued by some criminal or bum that got "injured" while on your property. Overall, they'd have to pay me a lot of money to "buy" one of these, and they'd have to indemnify against suits as well..... No wonder nobody's buying.

I think they should buldoze most of Detroit and convert it to farm land, so it can be of some economic value.
