I don't buy that the instinct for proliferation of our species is only 1 in 5 men. We wouldn't have made it this far if that was the case.

I completely agree with that. And I think when it became unacceptable in society to not become monogamous, I think that gene may have been 'bred out' of our civilization, for the most part. Like all genetic mutations, it still exists, and since the concept is relatively new to mankind in terms of its history, it'll take some more time. That, and since some men can overcome the genetic influence, they still spread the DNA and thus it gets passed on. That, and more and more unwed mothers from those very same guys... hell, the gene may have been on its way out for all we know.

I refuse to believe it's a new 'gene mutation', not when that very concept was born into all men and women so that the species could survive. Monogamous relationships would have killed the species early on, and is still far from natural.

And no mosh, before you ask: I don't have commitment problems. 😛
