I don't think frivolous means what you think it means. And what's up with the Baghdad by the Bay thing? Not only is San Francisco an amazing city, but Muslim nations are usually very socially conservative, not liberal... so that doesn't make much sense. That, and I think the quote meant it in a pejorative sense, but Baghdad is now the seat of our 'allies' in Iraq?

I think the chances this guy is a pedophile are slim to none. Everything about this guy that I can see radiates 'fine human being'. I can't think this can be anything other than a witch hunt by some very vicious and vindictive people. Ward is a powerful and cogent critic of the right who simply demolishes the idiots on the right who call in to his show. And he rips up the Democrats too, especially Nancy Pelosi.

Yeah, but that's not how you used it. Your useage modified the nature of his belief, not his person. In addition, nothing in your link or your commentary implied that he treated the first amendment in a trifling or inappropriately humorous way. Do you have some examples?
Really I can't even imagine what his stance on the first amendment would have to do with this regardless. The only way it would even apply to this case would be in the creation of child pornography, it's dissemination, or I guess if things were really crazy the right to association of child porn groups or the right to petition the government for redress because of the oppresion of such a group? Did he do any of these things? I've never listened to him, but none of those strike me as things a radio host with aspirations of national syndication would do.

I've listened to Bernie Ward for many years. He is a passionate liberal.
I think there's virtually no chance he did anything wrong morally on this (if the law is too broad and captures innocent activity, that's another issue we'll see about).
He has long been advocate for morality, and an extremely strong critic of the Bush administration - but not the most vicious, his colleage Ray Taliaferro would make righties' heads explode, and I suggest they listen to a sample of him (they are open to different opinions, right?) Ray makes Harvey sound like a Bush voter.
Here is a link to the archives - Ray's show is 1-5 AM weekdays.
As for the political angle - I don't put is past this administration. We know they have politicized the justice department, with multiple times more investigations of democrats than republicans, getting rid of attorneys who prosecute guilty republicans or don't prosecute innocent democrats. Other prominent liberal spokespeople threatened with charges in the last couple years include Michael Moore and Greg Palast.
At least it's not Putin - did I hear hundreds of critical journalists have been killed?
