Why is this not in the news? I can't find it, but it was on the radio. It's worse than when ge called the Greeks "Grecians", even if it was an honest mistake.

Sorry if it's a double post, but I didn't find it in a search of the forums.

what's wrong with this picture? is yahoo becoming the clinton news network?

Is this like the time that president made the "V" sign for victory with his fingers to another country and it was actually like the middle finger would be here? The dude is only human please give him a break after all he is getting much better than he was when he first started.
 
If Bush is the utter moron that Democrats would like to portray him as, I doubt he knew that "Pakis" was a slur. I know I didn't. I'm sure he just used it in passing, just like everyone who calls him "Dubya".

Hell, I didn't know Pakis was a derogatory word. And the spokesman from the Pakistani embassy said it was no big deal.

"I would give him the benefit of the doubt and say it was said in passing. In all fairness, I would say it's not a racial slur," he said.

Well...the spokesperson probably knew that it is "americans" and not "ameris" or something.

Hmmm... Around here (Toronto) "beloved patriot" is pretty derogatory term, TODAY.
 
Our president is just a good old boy doing a great job. The fact that he speaks from the hip, uses American slang and says what is on his mind makes for good news. Americans have always used abreviated terms: He's an Aussie, he's a Czech, they are Scots, Indy (500), etc etc .. well the Pakistan people are Pakis if you are an American speaking English. No degradation here. there are lots of words with double or hidden meanings.

I like Bush because he is a straight-shooter. He tells it like it is even if it doesn't sound good. It's not some glossed over version of the truth or some liberal media bs.

I'm not so much a Rush fan as I am a media basher. I think that most of the media are vampires playing on others emotions to sell their wares. They think nothing of the damage that their reportings cause or care not for the feelings of victims. All they care about is selling.
 
That's ridiculous. Do jewish people mind when you call them Jews? "beloved patriot" has been used poorly in the past, but slicing down Pakistani to beloved patriot and getting upset over that is pretty silly.

It's a racial slur in the UK because the UK used the term that way. It's not used that way in the States so I don't see the big deal. This is an American President not the President of the UK.

It's worth noting that at the end of the article it says:

These kind of stories about the President urk me.

I really could care less about this kind of stupid stuff. He is doing an OUTSTANDING job on foreign policy so far (since 9/11).

Legitimate complaints against the President should be confined to his ongoing crusade against the American middle class and elsewhere.

I dunno. My American friends wouldn't dare say "beloved patriot" because it IS derogatory in any context. Hell, you hear kids on the street in North America making fun of "Pakis" so you can't tell me that it's just a short form here. It's not as bad as "great person", but it's probably on par with "Chinaman". I've also heard some American police try to use the word "Chinaman" in a non-derogatory fashion, but nonetheless I still cringe when I hear it, because it has such a long history of being derogatory and people should know that.

I fully believe Bush meant nothing by it. I'm just surprised that he was so unaware of its derogatory tone. His use of "Prime Minister Jean Poutine" was funny. His use of "Grecians" was just strange. His use of "Pakis" is sad.
