It's that darn pesky Bill of Rights again. Good thing to Bush its "only a god d*mned piece of paper"

I thought it was the constitution??

And to the "urban legend" comment: it was quoted in a newspaper with no retraction. Also, I don't seem to recall any complaints from the usually whiny white house press secretary on the matter.

The Bill of Rights are part of the constitution, its called an amendment

What I meant was that he said explicitly "the constitution is just a damned piece of paper".

Urban legend alert. Bush never said that. There is no source on record as stating that they ever heard Bush say that. That story began in a blog and was repeated (with added embellishments with every repetition) for a while.

If you believe he really said that you're an idiot.

Original source of the "quote"
Later versions changed "I've heard from two whitehouse sources who claimed they heard from others present in the meeting" to "annoymous senators said" to "insert whatever will add more credibility to this fabrication".

Let it go.

I'm not questioning whether he said it or not. Simply referring to the original story that it was the constitution he was referring to.

While I'm here though, so only an idiot would think that king george is capable of uttering this, when his policies have twice been declared unconstitutional by the USSC????

Way to contradict yourself.

So you are or are not sticking to your original contention that Bush said the constitution was "just a goddamned piece of paper?" The simple fact is that Bush never uttered the quote you are trying to attribute to him. The scenario in which the ficticious quote was supposedly uttered is equally dubious, unsourced and likely fictional.

So yeah, only an idiot would believe he said that. What's more, it wasn't published in a newspaper... it was published in a blog. See my link one more time.

But don't let me get in the way of your Bush-bashing fantasies. It's not like he hasn't done enough real stuff and been quoted on the record saying enough stupid stuff... The fact that you continue to resort to citing fictional quotes in addition to everything else is laughable.

Its no contradiction. This whole mess started when I questioned someone else on whether or not the original story had him mentioning the constitution or the BOR. Accurate or not, the story said it was the constitution.
