Right on. Do you think Bush had his feelings hurt because more people voted for Gore than him? Hehehe of course he still ended up with the big prize.

to speak their mind?

If they want to speak their mind, fine. That's what this country's all about. They just need to realize that other people are allowed to speak their minds... and not buy their records. I listened to a forty-five minute debate this morning on the way in to work about this subject.

If they're going to speak out about America's actions and the war, then they need to come to the realization that their popularity is really going to suffer.

When you're in a business that relies on popularity, it's rather stupid to say something that will alienate your core audience.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

Freedom of speech does NOT mean freedom from social consequence or responsibility.

Yeah let's show those Broads that they can't speak their minds and get away with it.

to speak their mind?

They can speak their mind, but they have to understand that everyone may not agree with them and it may adversely affect the sales of their records.

You are free to say whatever you want, but that doesn't mean that you don't have to be accountable for what it is you say.

True. They should have known that their core audience is prone to Knee Jerk reactions and Lemming/Flock like behaviour

Riiight, even though Bush has a 65%+ popularity rating, huh? Even though 70+% of the population supported the war effort, right?

And the Chicks aren't the only entertainment dipsticks getting hit in the pocketbook for voicing unpopular opinions. Why else would Babs, Sarandon, Madonna, Robbins and Baldwin (to name a few) be whining so much?

Who voiced an opinion like this, Red? Really, if you're going to try and inflame people, at least be realistic.

Elitist much?

What makes you think YOU aren't the one being lied to and misled?

Of course, it's typical from the left... They know what's best for you, no matter what. Everyone else is just too stupid to make up their own minds about anything.

I've never liked the Dixie Chicks music and never paid much attention to them or what they were doing, however after this incident I've actually found myself reading a few articles about them (and their stance on the war)...

Yes if you go against popular opinion you can often loose popularity, but this is something minor and I wouldnt be surprised if they were able to bounce back from this quickly enough (if they stick with it).

I think the one member's initial speaking-out could have been much more "PC" and I'm not really trying to argue good/bad out of this, but it's still interesting to hear about and sad to see how ignorant and stupid people are en-masse

I supported our actions in Iraq and I'm not boycotting anybody because of their political views. I don't buy DC's records because I think their music sucks. Frankly I think the asshole President of the BHOF should have his head served up on a platter for politicizing the BHOF by canceling the Bull Durham event because he disagree'd with Robbins and Sarandon's view on this war.

I bet out of the 70% who favored our actions in Iraq only a small percentage would be muddle minded enough to boycott anybody for their political views. Hey this is America and even though Knee Jerk reactions are a popular form of expressing ones ignorance it's usually a backstabbing country like France that feels the Bubba's wraith.

Why is it "stupid and ignorant" to stop associating with someone who has offended you and insulted your president during a time of war?

Are you saying there should be no social consequence if you say something stupid, tasteless, or offensive?

I think this is wrong for these people to be under scrunity because they opposed the war. There are still a lot of unanswered questions concerning the war.
