I have to give credit where it's due, to Bush for not pardoning Scooter Libby or others for crimes they 'might have committed' from torture to wiretapping.

Now it's up to the Democrats to investigate the crimes, and sadly the chances seem low that they'll do the right thing.

They merely made a mistake while defending this nation from harm.

If they were defending the nation from harm, they would have shot a republican.

I give a shit about somebody getting shot sneaking across the border. If they don't halt when told to, then shoot them all.

Was the big long article too much for you? Do you not understand that whole rule of law thing?

Ahh, does your bleeding heart only think US citizens are required to follow the law?

I guess when you read "the big long article" you missed the fact it was an illegal alien drug runner who got shot?

Some of you people are truly pathetic and need to pull your heads out of your butts and look around at what's really going on. We're having an illegal influx where I live and if I lived any farther away from the border I'd be in another fracking country!!!

Did you miss the part where 2 US citizens shot someone in the back who wasn't armed?

Here is something important that you probably won't understand. Police just can't shoot someone they don't like, even if they are brown.

well i was going to argue with you but since you pulled the race card i will as well.

THE TWO BORDER PATROL OFFICERS ARE BROWN TOO and have SPANISH surnames!!!!!!!!

god you cant even use the race card, go back to your playpen and suck your binky with your blanky.

Hmm... reading the wikipedia entries and the various articles I wouldn't exactly portray them as deserving the pardon. The things that the border agents did don't exactly make their actions heroic:

1) Shooting unarmed suspect.
2) Destroying evidence.
3) Covering up what happened.
4) Not reporting the incident.

Except that they didn't get a pardon. They just got their sentences shortened.

You are right on the commuted vs pardon part. What bothers me the most is why would the border agents cover up the incident, destroy evidence, and not report this. As one of the posters above said, we should demand a lot more from those who wear the uniform and serve this country. Breaking the laws that you are responsible for upholding puts the border patrol in a very bad light.

1. suspect was a armed long time drug runner
2. they picked up their brass
3. they didnt think they shot the guy
4. they did report it.

1. He was not armed "Compean admitted that Aldrete had attempted to surrender with both hands open and in the air."

2-3. They did know and it was the middle of the day. "The agents shot at him 15 times, hitting him once, knocking Aldrete to the
ground. Compean and Ramos chose not to walk over to the wounded Aldrete and arrest him;"
"The events of Feb. 17, 2005, occurred at approximately 1:00 P.M MT."

4. The did not report it. "They did not report the discharge because they knew the shooting was not justified."

Agent Ramos has never received any formal recognition or award for being the Border
Patrol Agent of the year. In fact, he has been arrested on at least two occasions for domestic
abuse and was formally disciplined for conduct unbecoming a federal officer.

Just the REAL facts

I've studied hispanic politics and had lengthy discussions with hispanics regarding how they identify themselves, and my impression has been that illegal immigrants are often looked down upon more by hispanics than whites in many cases. This because the legal hispanics feel as if the illegal immigrants haven't paid their dues and are giving them a bad name. Obviously I can't generalize but it seems to me a Hispanic border patrol agent would likely share this attitude.

I demand that we find who is funding these drug lords and send the military after them! Who is paying for all these drugs?

Why not intercept the drugs, lace them and allow them to be redistributed.
That will stop the flow of money and demand.

After all, any liberal will complain about the military being used within the US for law enforcement.

No more fear for people protecting our dangerous border to do their job.

Their job is not shooting someone in the back *and covering it up*.

the drug runner was shot in the ass. get your facts straight.

The phrase 'shot in the back' meant he was facing the other way. Not that shooting him in the front when he's unarmed and not a threat is ok, but running away makes it clearer.

The word 'back' has multiple meanings - the back part of the torso, and also the back side of the body - 'the back of the head', his 'backside', and so on.

Your post changes nothing in the point being discussed.
