Russ conveniently left out the fact that it was thrown out in Florida not on its merits, but because it was considered the wrong venue.

I don't think this case will go anywhere, but I think it shines a spotlight on how Jr and his Veep-wanna-be, the self-proclaimed ethical standard bearers, played fast and loose with the residency rules.

I notice in that quote above, that it doesn't mention the timeframe for the residency requirement, which implies that it is at the time of the election by the college, which is Dec. 18. Further, who the fsck cares? This is about the equivalent of a law that says both the President and the Vice-President can't have blue eyes.

I hate to say this, but I wonder if this hasn't contributed to his ill health.

Like I said before, it is unfortunate and I like the man in general. However, I guess every stone must be unturned. If it were Lieberman, all h-e-double hockey sticks would be breaking loose!

Given #12 is all about electors, I'd say Andrew is correct: the VP can't be an &quot;inhabitant&quot; of the same state as the P on Dec. 18th. Looks like it's much to do about nothing, especially considering the amendment was written in 1803/04 and the intent of that portion was likely to prevent a dictatorship rising from a single powerful state.

According to &quot;Official&quot; paperwork, Dick Cheney's residence is in WY. He apparently saw this possibility in advance and moved his residence status there the day after being named as V.P. candidate. If this is all correct, it would be well in advance of of the Federal Mandate.
