The reason that he wanted to manually read them, was that some voted and the card wasn't punched enough to read by the machines.

Russ: Stop drinking before you post. :) OK, I will make it simple:
Relevant question 1: Do you want the votes recounted in Talahassee?
Relevant question 2: Do you want them to apply a standard consideration on what constitutes a vote?
Relavent question 3: Are you prepared for the consequences if Gore comes out far enough ahead to beat Bush?

First - Gore wanted a recount of three "highly" democratic counties.

My question - if he wanted "all" the votes to be counted, why did he only ask for the three counties all of which are highly democratic?

Second - If Gore wants all the votes to count then why are 40% of the military votes excluded? After all we need to decide the "true intent" of the people. Isn't a soldier a person?

My response- Don't give me that "they didn't comply with the law" bullcrap either. Afterall, they, the dems, didn't care about the legislative law regarding dates for election certification.

Third - Why is it that Gore wants all the votes to be counted now? He told the repubs that they could have a full state count if the repubs wished, they didn't, so why is Gore asking for one now? He could have asked for a full state recount a long time ago, refer to question 1.

It seems very strange that Republicans don't want to count democratic votes which have some sort of flaw such as not being punched all the way through, but yet, they have no problem counting incomplete ballots from people in the military. Face it, an incomplete ballot breaks the law either way. If we throw out one, we have to be fair and throw out the other, regardless of who or where it came from. People voting absentee have responsibilites (albeit different responsibilities, just like those voting at the polls have responsibilities). They need to fill their ballot out with all required information, they need to have it properly postmarked. They should familiarize themselves with what is required to have their ballot counted since they should be taking their vote seriously. And if they don't follow the procedure, they are just as dumb as any Palm Beach voters who didn't punch their ballots through all the way or voted for the wrong candidtate. Requirements are requirements, there's no way around it no matter who you are.

shitforbrainsv Perhaps you should do a little research and a bit of listening and reading before spewing so much excrement. Arguing the issues without knowing what the issues are only makes you look like a fool.

Why don't you enlighten us with your perfect wisdom Format C:;)

How could anyone counter your airtight argument? ;)

Obviously these Republicans can't possibly see that they are being just as partisan and stupid as the other side.

Both sides would do anything to win. What would Bush had done if he had been behind by 500 votes?

I'm sure he would have conceded then and there! ;)

Bush was ready to take things to court as much as Gore.

If Bush is so much for state's right, why did he go right to the federal courts! Isn't that hypocritical?

Is Bush going to say the Supreme Court of the U.S. is wrong and a bunch of idiots as well when it rules against him?

We shall see!

Please Format C:, I've read some of your other posts and all I can say is I can tell you became an elite member by your number of posts, NOT by the quality.

Really, having elite in front of your name is almost like having president-elect in front of Bush's name - it's an oxymoron.

Republicans, they're all alike, and it's pretty sad.

Both sides are trying to win.

Gore wants specific ballots counted and counted the way he wants them to be counted. It isn't just the count that he wants, he wants the most liberal method possible in determining if there is a vote or not. Under the standard that was quoted in the Florida Supreme Court ruling (from the Illinois case), most of the Broward County votes would be tossed out.

Note that he not only wants the Palm Beach County votes included in the certified total, he also wants them to redo the count using a standard he defines.

The Republicans are obviously trying to run out the clock.

Both approachs are poor and neither are fair and democratic.

I will probably get flamed for this, but I consider Michael's posts to be some of the most balanced on this whole presidential fiasco.

I'm Typing,

I would be perfectly fine with re-counting the whole damned state, if reasonable objective criteria were used. But, everyone knows that is NOT what happened in Broward County. They faked votes for Gore. Read the official transcripts.

Chess9,

I promised another liberal I would stop calling him Bore. Gore's Goonies describes perfectly the willingness on the part of his supporters to completely sacrifice all logical thought in their blind pursuit of a stolen Presidency.

Russ you're amusing in your blindness. You claim that Democrats stole votes in Broward, well get in court by God, if thats the truth it will come out. No one wants to see votes stolen. I don't believe it happened for a second, but get them in court and lets see.

However, theres a little more substantial violation of the law in Seminole county, you know the county where 2 Republican Operatives were allowed to tamper with Ballot Request forms that had already been declared invalid. There is no room for discussion on this point, letting outsiders tamper with state forms is a felony. You have absolutely nothing to say about this incident, because it is a crime. It is now up to the Courts to decide how many votes to take away from Bush for this subversion of the voting process. So dont whine when it happens ok. :D.

Orbius,

Read the official transcripts for Broward County. They bogused up vote after vote by ridiculous definitions of "voter intent".

As for the Seminole County lawsuit filed by the desperatecrats, it will go nowhere, just as all of their legal shenanigans will go nowhere.

Gore is a political corpse, and all we're seeing now are twitches caused by the dying nervous system.

Whats the dem's excuse for Dem's giving cigs to homeless people when they vote. Taking advantage of someone...mmmm...unfortunate.

Whats the excuse for missing the deadline?

Whats the excuse for Gore not asking for a recount of the whole state instead of only asking for three highly democratic counties? Then changes his mind, and now he wants a whole state recount.

Whats his excuse for demanding that every vote should count, but excludes 40% of the military. Afterall, the other ballets are dimpled, and technically should have never been counted, but he wants them counted. Why break the rules when it favors Gore, and not when it favors Bush?

Im sorry, but we already had one "disturbed" Pres in the White House, and I really don't care for another. And to think at one point I was torn between choosing for Bush and Gore.

I also agree with a lot of what Michael posts even though he is obviously a republican. I just want to point out that both parties will go to just about any lengths to win. Neither has proven himself to be non-partisan and this election will never truly reflect the real winner because there are too many laws that get in the way of the truth.

I do believe in the constitution, but we must remember that it was written over 200 years ago and is not very accurate in many instances, such as this one. We cannot have a body of the government comprised of a majority of either party because the outcome will always be partisan.white wigs and robes or otherwise.

I agree with you.

No one forces people on this board to accept Elite status. If an Elite wants to post drivel, and they often do, shoving his Elite title in his face is a perfectly legitimate tactic. No one hesitates to stoop lower than their enemy here-particularly in political threads. Name calling is the order of the day. Believe me, no one here who posts in the hot button threads holds the high ground, including those Red thinks do. Only those who eschew controversy are above it all.

Yeah, Red is right, we are all just regular people, but if he really believed it, why did he get upset over a bit of ad hominem? People call each other worse things all the time. Seems hypocrital to me.

Being new here, you are unaware that we have a "pack of dogs" mentality. Attack one of "ours" and you'll get slapped. And no one defends Elite territory like an Elite or Elite wannabe.

At any rate, the Elite title for Off Topic is absurd. Of course, it makes sense in the hardware forums.

I don't recall defending the elite title. Someone correct me if I have.

I also don't recall me calling people names because I can't make my point either.

However, he does have a lot to get use to!!!! It's not always this bad.

BTW, HEY CHESS!!! Whats been going on?

<< . In political threads very few actually make quality posts. Micheal, 525ride and Etech are a few of the exceptions. >>

Thanks Red.....

Maybe, one day, when I grow up (I'm only 49 now), I too can be an elite member......Most of my contributions have been to the hardware forums, and in fact it was at my suggestion that two of the forums were added more than a year ago....

However, I'm disappointed at the direction of personal attacks many of the election threads have taken lately. Much of it is actually pretty disgusting....

Take a look at my current sig......

Yeah, he probably doesn't think his heart will be able to take much more of this!

BTW, I bet the republicans will have a big ol' bonfire with Katherine Harris as the MC.

What really bakes my noodle is....

why were only the democrats so impotent that they could not punch the cards right? or at least that is what Gore would lead you to believe since he feels the majority or "his" votes lies in the pile of cards rejected by the machine? is this a sign that democratic leaning voters are truly inept? and only the republican voters are capable enough of punching the cards correctly?.

Why can't Gore realise that there just might have been a bunch of people that were wary of the presidential election, thought of voting, maybe started to puch out the little chad and then said screw it I don't want either of these losers to win and didn't vote?

And furthermore how can any person be truly objective? I mean c-mon if I wanted someone to win I would try and push that every vote was for him/her even if it clearly was not.

They should have let it go after the first machine recount.

Gore is a big sore looooooser---wahh wahh wahh :)

1. Talk about calling the kettle black. Your guy is the "I trust the states", and turns immediately to the FEDERAl courts instead of the Florida Courts....and later again, when things don't go his way. Yeah, he trusts the states all right....

2. You made this accusation of lying before....but what was the actual lie.....I've asked before for the actual testimony or transcript cite where the lawyer alleged did this.....I haven't seen it yet.
