Burnout fail.

The thing that makes that video awesome is their attitudes after the transmission blows off. Most people in the same situation would be screaming or crying; they're laughing.

That wasn't a burnout at all.

Burnouts start with a stationary vehicle with very non-stationary drive wheels:

So I guess he forgot to turn traction control off? It kinda looks like it because it inches forward and then just stops, like the car is applying the brakes.

even with TC on, he would've either beat the brakes (probably unlikely on a vette) or killed the motor. not to mention that TC should modulate the brakes to get you moving- those wheels were locked.

I always wonder how so many people seem to burn up their clutches after 20,000 miles, sometimes less. Now I guess I have my answer.

I've never had a clutch last less than 100,000 miles.

Side bar - I'm at 200K on original clutch, still working perfectly and likely has another 100K of wear at least left.
 
my trans will probably explode before my clutch goes out. good 'ol veedub.

and yeah, he was standing on the brakes. doing a burnout with a manual means heel-toe work on the brake and gas while you slowly let the clutch out. too much brake and you stall, too much clutch and you do what's in the OP. he missed the part where once the wheels are spinning, you let off the clutch and leave it alone until you want to stop burning down the tires (or shift, if you're that ballsy).

Nah, traction control would have been cutting power and the car would sound like it was dying. Besides most traction control systems determine wheel spin based on ABS sensors, and no wheels were moving in this case. This guy just doesn't know how to do a burnout in a manual.

I can see that view. But with that much power being applied to the drive train the only thing TC has is the brakes. I've been reading on the vette forums and the general consensus is he had TC on, or parking brake (unlikely), or standing on the brakes.

My guess is this was staged. Nobody can be that stupid, especially the camera guy walking in front of a 500+ HP car, motor pegged, in gear.

Nobody can be that dumb.

Oh people sure can be that dumb. Middle aged guy buying the classic mid life crisis cruiser. He probably has never had a car capable of burning out, or at least, not since he was 18 and they didn't have electronics to stop him back then.

I mean, the balloon boy parents got sentenced to jail today. People can be that dumb.
 
what most, if not all you guys don't know, is that the guy needed to replace his clutch. so he made a video of burning his old clutch hoping to get enough views to pay for his new clutch. (see adsense)
