Two tier response?
There should always be two tiers. A public safety net to protect ALL. And private wealth to do whatever.

You can argue that the public capacity needs to be improved, but don't tell me people shouldn't be able to protect their homes.

As long as a public authority is coordinating efforts with the privateers and vice versa, I see no issue here. I would have an issue if private firefighters set up their own controlled burns to protect a neighborhood at the expense of public land (unless they've coordinated with the proper authorities.) Likewise, public firefighters should be able to share data and observations with the privateers.

I don't (generally) have a problem with this. I think the government has a duty to be adequate prepared for fire response and to conscientiously decide on building permits considering this risk. If they are doing a good enough job for the public, I don't care that the rich may choose to spend more for better service. And if they are not doing a good enough job, private firefighters is a symptom and not a problem.

No, the logical conclusion to my being happy about being on the other side of his opinions is that I usually disagree with his political opinions, but knock yourself out.

Why do you derive anything from being on the opposite side of him? Again, you are linking yourself to him. I disagree with many people, but I see no reason to get happy/sad from that.
