Unless, of course, you're rich enough. :(

To argue against this two-tiered response is to argue against capitalism itself, suggest industry insiders.
And that would just be wrong!

Yet Bach added a note of regret, saying she would prefer wildfire fighting not being a class system, where first class gets a full meal, and in couch you get peanuts”.
Awwwwww!

The high-end insurers market to the exceptionalism of their clients – “families who have more to protect,” as Pure’s website reads.
Build the (fire) wall!

Chubb’s site features a 72-year-old named Gerry in Ventura, California, who escaped the Thomas Fire last year, and contrasts his story with the relative misfortune of his neighbors: “Not only was Gerry treated first class every step of the way, as Chubb clients, he says he and his wife were the only two in their development able to rebuild.”
F*ck the others, amIrite? :(

There was a post years ago here about somewhere in TN thats this is happening. Something about state county borders.

What is the issue here though? Rich people bought something to make their house safer. How is this different than buying a more secure door, windows, ect?

Or hiring security guards?

Having lots of money or power or any other resource allows you to have access to things that poor people don't. That's life.

To me a better analogy would be gated communities and private security. If you want to do away with private fire fighters then also do away with gated communities and all forms of private security. Adding stipulations police and other armed forces can't be assigned security detail for anyone. Secret service will now only be for sitting President and Vice President and their immediate family members only. You want to level the playing field and get things changed, that's how to start i think.

I lost interest in the article when they started rambling on about climate change being the cause and bitching about rich people. wildfires have been a known problem due to meddling and not allowing the under growth to be burned off. Adding to that people seem to keep moving deeper into wooded areas and think they deserve special treatment for their choice. they deserve no special treatment just like people that own beach homes.

Anything that frees up the wildland firefighters to go back to protecting the the forests is fine by me. A driver for fires getting bigger is that the wildland firefighters expend time and resources protecting houses instead of containing the fire.

Breaking news ............ rich people have better health care, drive nicer cars, go to cooler places for vacations, have bigger and nicer houses, dress better, are usually better educated and are far less likely to be hateful communists or needy socialists.

They also may be willing to pay for extra fire protection.

Do you realize you are the same as the OP, with the difference being on opposing sides?

If you follow others just to be on the opposite side, then you are letting them control you no?
My opinion was my opinion, wealthy people have options, it's one of the main benefits of being wealthy. I don't condemn people for having and exercising their options.

Not talking about that now. I said that you were like the OP but with opinions on the other side. You said there was no other place you would rather be, which implies that you hold your opinions, or at least desire to, based on what the OP thinks.

That would be wrong, my opinions are always my own and Perknose's opinions are always his own. They just frequently fall in juxtaposition.

Or having car insurance, flood insurance, home insurance, an alarm service, security cameras, a dog, a smoke detector... The list goes on and on and on. This entire thread is just yet more entitlement rambling from OP. OP - Do you have a lock and key on your doors at your home? Clearly you're entitled and need to share the wealth.

And as far as insurance - Everytime we have another hurricane or tropical system we always have more incompetent Americans that feel entitled for everyone else to pick-up the pieces and help them rebuild - when the entire time they could have at minimal had VERY affordable flood insurance. I think I pay... $400 a year for mine. I haven't had to use it in the last 8 years I've had my home, I guess that means I don't need it since I'm not using it!

Agreed. As long as the private yahoos do not interfere with the real firefighting there is nothing wrong with it. It's like putting a lawyer on retainer or getting a bodyguard or having any other kind of insurance.

The only problem I see is if they put any more strain on the actual fire-fighting operations with their requests and whatnot. I wonder how many times real fire-fighters have to go save their asses or have their operations interrupted to deal with them.
