there is a difference between saying something unpopular and saying something like "god hates fags"

"there's a difference between saying something unpopular and saying the government is wrong. freedom of speech does not protect seditious speech".

yeah, i get what you're saying.

I swear if someone made a 2+2=4 thread Neckbeard would find a way to disagree with it based on UK math rules.

The bad thing he did was steal a Koran/Quran. Burning it in a way that is not threating the safety of others or property should be his right.

I think you've got it the wrong way round, I believe the point he was making is that in america you can't spread hate if it is in sighting your followers to act violently, not for fear of repercussions from the subjects of your hate.

But who gets to determine what does and does not incite violence? Why not set the bar at the act of violence?

He doesn't understand the principles of liberty and freedom.

Yep, very true. Basically he thinks that anyone offending someone else should be put in jail, that somehow people have the inate right to go through life without being offended. 🙄

Oh yeah! I forgot about that. I nearly wet myself with excit... I don't care about it, it's my birthday on the 27th I'm far more interested in that than two people I will probably never meet getting married. I'm not a celebrity kind of person.

Your birthday is April 27th?

Fuck me... that's my son's birthday too....

Agreed. Stealing it wasn't cool, but as for burning it, let the Muslims be offended. This kind of crap is what drives otherwise normal people in Europe to support crazy far-right political parties.

Poppies represent the blood of soldiers fallen in battle. If a .... coughcoward ..... muslim wants to burn our symbols in public i would kick his teeth in.

Especially this time of year. Its anzac day in Australia this weekend

The UK gave up the idea of freedom long time ago. When faced with a choice between freedom of expression and a politically correct notion of certain groups having a right not to be offended and to censor things they don't like, they chose the latter.

Freedom of speech is the most fundamental freedom. Without it, a free society can not exist, and in the UK clearly freedom of speech is dead. All you have to do to take away someone's right to say something is as a group threaten violence based on what is said. Sad really, to see the British slump away like cowards ......

Are all crimes coupled with hate of some sort?

"Hate Crime" laws are the most insidious laws ever invented.

Definitely agreed. There are other laws that take into consideration the motivation, but only in the sense that they try to ascertain if you meant to do the harm or not and whether or not you planned to do the harm or just temporarily lost control. The hate crime laws are a new breed where the government has to somehow get into your brain and determine what your motivation for doing something was, and if that motivation is politically correct or not.

Here's the local news story. The guy is obviously just a racist. He was shouting abuse in the street, presumably at the nearest brown person.

http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/carlisle-man-jailed-for-burning-koran-in-city-centre-1.829161

The court heard that Ryan has a number of previous convictions, including one for racial chanting at a football match.

Ryan was sentenced to 70 days for racially aggravated harassment and 30 days for theft, to run concurrently.

An order was also made for the destruction of his iPhone – which was used to post Facebook messages about how he had burnt the Koran.

They also destroyed his iPhone for lulz.

The whole "racially aggravated harassment" for burning a book is stupid. If he stole the thing, charge him with theft. I don't give a shit about what words are in the book he burned or if it's someone's "sacred" book or not. Sheer stupidity, freedom of speech is dead in the UK.

The guy is obviously just a racist.

Yep, and he's an idiot as well, but in a free country neither of those things lands you in jail.

I am going to buy me some "holy" books this winter to use for kindling in my fire place. The Koran, Bible, Torah, and any other so call "holy" book will burn well this winter in my fireplace.

"The Bible's blind, the Torah's deaf, the Koran is mute. If you burn them all together you'll get close to the truth."

OK - Given:

Bible = See No Evil

Torah = Hear No Evil

Khoran = Speak No Evil

Therefore, we could conclude:

The Book Of Mormon = "Have No Fun"!?!? 😉
