There's only 4 hours in the entire day nobody is here. They must have known our schedule. Even area landscapers see us in and out every day. We live in the middle of suburbia on Long Island and this is one of the better towns. But we, along with 1 other house down the street were burglarized this afternoon. Only partial prints were made and taken. Lost are my uncle's brand new Dell Inspiron laptop and my digital camera, both totalled $2000. Also cash and some jewelry were missing. Strangely enough, a Palm Pilot and my XBOX sitting just as freely in the open, were not taken.
My little pomeranian was locked in the kitchen the whole time, where they entered with a crowbar to the sliding glass. They didn't harm him, at least. He's acting as if nothing even happened right now. Poor guy musta been scared s#!tless seeing people brake the glass and come in, having nowhere to run and hide. For those with big home-defense dogs, if he were a bigger dog, they might've even thought to whack him over the head with the crowbar. Not good.
Anyway, the point is, don't take your safety in your home for granted. The cop said a couple were bound and burglarized once around here also. This is considered a safe neighborhood! We didn't have an alarm system, but frankly, they would've made off with the laptop and camera within 3-5 minutes anyway. They were sitting in the open upstairs in my room. I think an alarm system with external sounds (so my neighbors, who are nosy, would hear) would be a lot better than getting cops here with a silent alarm. So I keep rambling - sorry about that... just be safe out there. Money is money and home-insurance claimable, but your well-being is more important.
