Burglar in house, you have gun locked and loaded

  • immediately shoot. 1 in the head, 2 in the chest. no questions asked

  • immediately shoot, but not to kill

  • anounce that you have gun and ask burglar to leave first

  • curl up like a bitch, hand over wife/gf, kids, and jewelry

Anyone breaking into my home is going to get a chest full of buck shot, I have no reservations about that.

But, unfortunately for me, I do have some reservations about keeping one in the chamber at all times. Maybe I should just get over it since I have no reason to doubt the safety, but it really seems like bad policy.

Based on my last target practice on Saturday, my first 7 rounds would go center mass with a few of them possibly hitting neck/head.

were you nice and calm, standing still on a range? I can do that all day too.

I'm not sure how I'd do scared shitless or with adrenaline pumping. Probably not so great.

well they are stupid enough to risk their lives. They are entering a locked house with intentions to do harm.

A homeowner does not know if they are there just to steal the tv or to kill them.

Statistically they have zero interest even in a confrontation. As soon as the lights go on they will bolt.

Flash bangs ftw?

You get 'em Jason Bourne... What if you could make them leave without killing them? Or does that get you kicked out of the he-man, woman-haters club?

They'd come back another time and fuck you up because they know you are a pussy.

This is one of the reasons I'm glad I am in Texas, and the nice Castle Law we have. I'm glad some lawmakers err on the side of law-abiding citizens.

In a stressful situation such as home invasion, I want to keep my mind on stopping the threat by any means necessary, protecting my family and property. I most certainly won't have the "Will I go to jail if I shoot the perp?" question on my mind.

Didn't read entire thread, so this has probably been said, but poll is garbage because:

-No option for hold burglar at gunpoint and wait for cops, shooting only if he continues to threaten.

-Option #2 will get you sent to prison. NEVER shoot to wound because that tells the jury that you were not in fear for your life and were not to the point were you could justify the use of deadly force. Shooting to wound means you were stupid enough to try to use your firearm as a less than lethal weapon and in your own mind the use of deadly force was not appropriate.

-Option #3 is bullshit. Take some pride in your community and society. Don't let criminals go to prey on your neighbors. Any person who caught a burglar in their home at gunpoint and then let them go is an asshole. You may be fooling yourself into thinking you are compassionate for not wanting to possibly hurt someone, but in reality you are scum because you had the opportunity to stop a criminal and instead chose to let him go to prey on a new victim another time.

Thats the beauty of this country, we have a right to choose if we want one or not. At least in MOST states here. 🙄

That's the choice in any country. Or did you think you were special? Free will is something everyone has equally regardless of law. What matters is what is right, not what is legal.

My dogs would be the first line of defense, until I fix myself a drink before capping a round in intruder's noggin

After I've got the 357 aimed for center of mass, I would yell at him/her to gtfo, if they delay, or turn around, or come towards me, I'd fire 3-4 rounds, Then, I'd look to see if there's another in the house. It's a 7 shot, and I do have 3 speedloaders that I'm very competent with, but would prefer not to "need" to reload in case I get jumped at ...I would also have a 45 on me, but, the 357 would be my first choice since I'm much more comfortable with it.

Um, call 911?

I want my own life in my hands...not the hands of cops and 911 dispatchers. If I have the power to save myself and family, then I will do it. Why should I wait for emergency services to respond, and that might be too late?

Not to knock on any 911 dispatchers or cops here who I'm sure do a fine job responding to emergencies.

I'd probably have my wife call 911 while I go investigate. I don't think I'd shoot though unless the intruder was armed and didn't comply with my requests...then again, you never know how you'll handle a situation until you're actually in it. Thankfully, I've never been in that situation.
