winxp should be fine -- you may have to use win2000 drivers if there's no specific xp driver. a post on page 2 of this thread says:

<< I just installed XP pro on mine on Sat. Install went great and it runs great. I only had a 128mb stick to throw in there too so I was a little worried. Boots reasonably fast, and I didn't even have to turn off all the extra skin and shadow candy either. Although I think it would run faster that way. >>

A lot of people have problems with Win2k and XP on these, the power supplies are too flaky and it constantly reboots. XP loads all the base drivers except the modem and the 2k driver works in XP. A more powerful PSU, that will fit, is the solution or stick to 98SE.

For anyone looking for a more power, Enhance makes a 200 watt power supply that fits burbie. It's available directly from enhance for $35 plus shipping. enhance

compgeeks has an abit flex-atx board that might work well in burbie.

Bump.

I have a co-worker who is in need of a barebones system for word processing and surfing the internet.

A few questions:
1) Is it worth installing the motherboard for $5?
2) Is it worth the install & test for $13?
3) Should I add the Celeron 500 for $34 from Directron.com? If not, where's the cheapest place to get a Celeron from? The CPU will not be overclocked.
4) What do you guys think about the spray paint and sanding for an extra $10, is it worth it?

Now I just need to find her a dirt cheap $50 - $100 monitor and she can have a system for around $200 give or take a few bucks.

Thanks!

easy to install yourself.
2) Is it worth the install & test for $13?
the main problem with these boards is with the battery -- get a brand new battery before you start installation ad you'll be fine.
3) Should I add the Celeron 500 for $34 from Directron.com? If not, where's the cheapest place to get a Celeron from? The CPU will not be overclocked.
You can find celeron 533 ppga through pricewatch at comparable price shipped. go to cpu and search on 533 -- you'll find several suitable celerons.
4) What do you guys think about the spray paint and sanding for an extra $10, is it worth it?
not worth it. if the paint job bothers your friend, the cost of buying suitable paint is less than $10 -- why spend the money if you don't need to?

As for monitor, there is a $150 rebate on certain Compaq monitors. Search this forum and obese billfold for details. I just picked up a 15" Compaq monitor open box at Best Buy for $70 and have qualified for a $150 rebate -- CompUSA as the same monitor brand new in box for $200 so is $50 after rebate.

thinking of getting one to have, so when I upgrade my main rig I still have something to surf the internet. just having a hard time justifying it though. ALthough it may be fun to paint and customize the look. Any thoughts or justification/rationalizing?

I don't consider this post a thread crap so much as a warning to my fellow ATers...

Stay far far away from this deal. I made the mistake of buying a Burbie from Directron. Their customer service is horrible, their support is laughable, and machine has more than its fair share of problems. I highly recommend saving your money for something else from somewhere else.

YMMV, but I doubt by much. Caveat emptor...

That is all. Resume normal posting now. 🙂

anyone know of any sites or guides on how to paint and modify this case to put another MB in it? I am looking to put an MSI mATX MB in it.

MicroATX motherboard is too big for the case. You need to find a FlexATX motherboard for this case. The I/O panel on the back of the case is replaceable, so you can put any (or at least most) FlexATX motherboard as long as you have a right I/O panel for it.

I bought a FlexATX board pulled from Gateway system off eBay for around $15 shipped but had to work on the I/O panel with a Dremel to get it to fit.

Of course, you can use the system 100% fine without any I/O panel as long as you do not care much the back view.

There are several posts in this thread with pictures of the various paint-jobs and mods to spruce up burbie. Burbie will take just about any flex-atx motherboard, but micro-atx is too big.

Directron is now making people pay for 3 day or faster shipping, no more ground shipping. Not really a great deal now since its around $75 total to ship to GA

that shipping sounds like ground, if you read before you actually put the item in your cart(the main page of the burbie description) it says that there is no ground shipping on the burbie and that they will contact you if you select it
