They may be rabbits, but what is done to them is not right.

PETA is a bunch of baffoons.

That said, I will not be so socially-binded, so weak, and so dependent on the opinions of others to say somethign so fvking coldhearted as what you jsut said...

I'm cold hearted because I don't care about rabbits? A child dies every three seconds in Africa from a preventable cause and I should care about rabbits? Who the hell cares about rabbits, they are almost identical to rats.

Wait, so you're a volunteer or in the peace corps right?

Don't give me any of that bullsh!t then. Many people including myself feel for africa.

that said, you simply said that these bunnies aren't important compared to the kids, as if
you were hoarding your resources for the kids...

the fact is that in both cases thigns are being done to the weak that are completely unecessary and cruel...

the only preaching I see in this thread is from those who believe it is morally acceptable to subject non-human animals to painful, horrific conditions and experiences..

Ah, I misunderstood. I thought this was about meat, not animal testing...

Well... We're animals. What difference does it make?

I don't condone mindless animal abuse, but in the case of testing it does serve a purpose....

Shrug, it's a tough one.

Go ahead and torture bunnies, because I don't care about them, I don't think torturing them is evil. I think it says something about a person who tortures an animal but I certainly would never make their actions illegal.

I think humanity approaches dangerous waters when we give animals moral significance (i.e. it's illegal to keep a dog in a hot car but not illegal to keep pigs, a smarter animal, in crappy conditions on a farm).

humans eat meat. some choose not to, but for pete's sake this is nature we're talking about.

i don't see anyone freaking out when a spider chomps down on a fly which was caught in his web. by the same principle, PETF should be created and begin their anti-fly-killing campaign ASAP.

edit: testing? oh

Folks, there is a difference between this and psychotic animal abuse.

Simple as that.

Actually, I think it's really about exposure and basic human emotions. I bet that if you visited a slaughterhouse, you wouldn't be jonesing for a hamburger right after.

edit: We do actually become quite robotic/unfeeling about some issues but I don't think that it is a sad thing. Imagine how the world would be if a Laci Peterson Law was passed for every mosquito that was about to be swatted.

don't get me wrong, what we do to bunnies is terrible.

i'm part of the medical research community too, and the people here work on mice, rats, monkeys etc.

but it just won't do to test things in an in-vitro environment.

everyone will agree with you that making these animals suffer is despicable.

but we either test on them or test on humans.
