Ok, so it's called "Bulletstorm" and maybe I shouldn't try and analyze the motivations of the enemies and I should just turn my brain off and shoot things... but, let me get this story straight. You and your buddy land on a planet and the local natives who work as miners jump up and start shooting you for no reason at all. They continue to shoot you despite the fact that you clearly have better weapons than them, and you have killed literally dozens and dozens of them. Then you make your way out of the mine to leave and they decide to destroy it in the random hope that they can stop you before you leave. Then they destroy bridges, multiple miles of train track, several trains, dozens of helicopters and one gigantic mining machine trying to kill you. Why? You are leaving...? The property damage sacraficed to kill two guys is now measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars (or credits, or zorkmids, or whatever currency they use) and they still keep attacking... why? What motivates them...? Isn't someone going to be the least bit annoyed with the miners that they destroyed virtually everything in a high tech mine trying to kill two random strangers who stopped by? I can just imagine the scene when the supervisor of the mine learns that they destroyed a 300ft. mining drill bit in an effort to level the main railway bridge in the hope of stopping two random guys from escaping.

Beyond the fact that none of this makes any sense to me... it's fun. Although my framerate is barely sufficient.

Did Borderlands make any sense to you? You go hunting for a huge treasure and when you finally find the Vault, the game ends with absolutely nothing resolved.

At least on this planet you find out why the inhabitants are so PO'd at you. By the end, all of your questions will be answered. If i tell you, it would be a spoiler.

Everything is explained as the story unfolds, as apoppin wrote. One of the most fun games I have played in a long time :) Pure unrestricted insane total ownage :D Funny crude dialogues! Especially from the general. Lots of swearing, pretty creative too. Fun gameplay! Fun guns, lots of fun ways to own sh!t too :D

And RIP Waggleton P. Tallylicker :(

Ok, glad to hear that I can look forward to some form of explanation for all this destruction.

I used to psycho-analyze the ape in Donkey Kong too... but he was just an ape, so I had a hard time with it. Who could know why he wanted to roll barrels...?

Well, you got to realize the main character is an alcoholic and you crashed because of that insane run on the big ship. And it deals with revenge and insanity although it is way out of its depth when it comes to redemption. You never really get any depth from the characters - but just keep shooting - at least you learn about the planet and get a passable story for a game.

Donkey Kong represented its creator - he was trying to extract quarters from you by making you fail.

When I was in Idaho, one of the funnest things to do as a kid was roll tires into a deep canyon... Heck, pushing any inanimate object down a hill/off a cliff is strangely satisfying.

I imagine the Mr. Kong got the same kick out of rolling barrels down a hill.

Not much story in either of them, that's true but I don't think you can compare them solely on this aspect.
There is a big difference between the two IMO, the quality of loot in Borderlands >>>>>Bulletstorm, the environment makes sense and the challenges make the game soo fun. I played the first one multiple times till now and fully expect myself to start another one at some time in the future, I only played Bulletstorm once though and already got fed up with it.

While I'm thinking random thoughts, one thing Bulletstorm reminds me of is what "Duke Nukem Forever" should have been like, but isn't. The similarity goes beyond just the wise-cracking main character and all the crude jokes... the 80's music... and other things... I wonder if the resemblance is more than accidental.

As far as Borderlands vs. Bulletstorm... they are pretty different games, but I will say that I didn't much care for Borderlands... I know lots of other people love it, but I thought it was confusing, weird, and repetitive. Not my kind of game... Each to their own. I can see replaying Borderlands, though, and I could see not replaying Bulletstorm. But I never even came close to finishing Borderlands before I gave up.

Did you play DNF? It is by no means as awful as many are making it out to be. The main character in both cases can carry no more than two weapons. i'd say Bulletstorm is a throwback to the earlier style of game. Both very very linear with simple puzzles and similar wisecracks. i much prefer DNF in S3D, however; Bulletstorm is confusing in 3D.

My only point regarding Borderlands was there was no real story at all except a tale of the Vault to keep you going - the loot and upgrading the weaponry was the motivation - and you simply were *denied* without explanation at the end.

One of the worst WtF endings of any game.

No, its actually worse. Ignoring the stupid Duke aspects (misogyny, tired or just plain not funny "jokes"), the game has so many baffling aspects that I cannot figure out how anyone stands up for it.

I actually think Bulletstorm is almost as bad as DNF, but it did a few interesting things. Both seem to have been developed by 13 year olds in many aspects though. Yes, Borderlands had its fair share of that too, in fact I held off for a long time to even play it because I was concerned about that. I have many of the same reservations about Rage.

I'm not saying Borderlands is a masterpiece, it has plenty of flaws, but the only thing I could say for Bulletstorm was it had nice graphics and one or two interesting gameplay elements that didn't fully realize their potential. DNF is just a staid, boring, sad, game. It should have left the crap humor and carried over the good gaming elements, instead it did the opposite.

Bulletstorm has an *insane* story. It is completely outside the realm of sanity and quite stupid and illogical. It is no better than that of DNF - and probably more internally contradictory.

DNF does not take itself seriously and is not a bad game.

This is like asking if playing as a plumber able to breath fire by eating a moving mushroom he had to catch, and glowing the entire visible spectrum and being invincible by touching a moving star to save a princess from a spiky pissed off turtle made any sense whatsoever.

It still sold millions though.

Quake made no sense - you were some guy that was supposed to go through a portal and start shooting people, why?

Left 4 dead makes no sense - 3 guys and 1 chick during a zombie invasion. And not a single guy bends zoey over? Whats up with that? Are bill, francis and louis gay or something?

If the game is fun, dont worry about the plot details.

To stop an alien invasion, of course - just like DNF and Doom :p
- what is important is that the game universe is not self-contradictory and remains true to itself.

And better question is, is your character gay in Bulletstorm? He seems to prefer the company of his boyfriend than the female hottie that they chase; then rescue and who joins them. Are they up for 3-way action or do they just sublimate with blowing people and creatures away? The backstory reminds me of the movie 'SuperBad' but written more at a junior high school level.

Bulletstorm is self-contradictory and it goes way the heck out of its depth when it attempts to cover "redemption". Did the writers not graduate high school? It really appears that they made up the story as it went along - just to accompany the action. The plot depends on the characters being stupid and/or insane.

This game is great fun. I certainly liked it more than Hellgate London or Borderlands. I'm referring to single player experience here ofc.

Have you gotten to the part where Triska says 'I will kill your dicks!'? Because once you do the story doesn't matter anymore and you play for more hilarity :)
