If I could convince the wife and kids to play "zombie survival" for 3 months this would save me a fortune!

I have to think that if I'm forced to eat this stuff for a year, humanity is probably pretty much fucked.

My wife better not see this. She all-ready has a huge survival kit built in our closet, she even kidnapped my backpacking stove. I had to fight her to leave my .45 where we store it so it could actually be used for home defense, she wanted it in the kit.

Ah well, I guess if things really went south I will thank her for all this prepwork...

When the zombie-pockolypse comes, I'll have to make sure to mow down all of the zombiefied families who bought these. More food for me!

78 cans of bulk food? Roughly alternator sized.

This sounds like pure win.

Each meal comes out to be like 78 cents if you eat 3 times a day over 365 days. This should be in Hot Deals, not off topic.

Lois Griffin: Peter, you just ate a years worth of food!
Peter Griffin: Huh. What a waste of money. Im still hungry.
[Peter drinks a glass of water, then immediately balloons to several times his size]
Peter Griffin: Everybody leave. I have to poop. *NOW!*

The real question is, if the product was 20years and 1 day old... would you eat it?

I think they're using seriously overly generous calculations...

Can of Freeze-Dried Broccoli (47 servings per can)
3 Cans of Chocolate Drink Mix (65 servings per can)

WTF? How are you suppose to use a single can of something over a long period of time?? 47 servings my ass, if you tried to actually use 1 serving or 3 servings per day, that stuff would be bad long before you finished the can. This is stupid...

Also it's $800, could you seriously not get more food for less money at Costco by buying the things individually instead of buying this kit? This kit just seems like it's using the nutritional fact labels, aggregating them all and then selling them as a kit.. Seems really stupid...

Valid points. Though one must question how many servings of vegetables are supposed to actually eat per day? I think its like 7-9, which would mean, if you kept it refrigerated you could eat the can in a week. Just don't open any other cans at the same time.

My uncle's food storage for a year is the best idea:
Buy rice, and pinto beans in bulk, ie 5 gallon bucket filled with it, and you can get most of the oxygen out by placing a chunk of dried ice in the bottom before you add the rice and beans, let it boil all the oxygen out, and then seal it. Store those, for 1 year, then replace, and during the next year, you consume the beans and rice.

Then buy normal canned foods that you eat, aka pears, peaches, and vegetables, etc, get enough to last a year.

The crux, is you have a list of all the stuff in your inventory and it has to be stored in a good root cellar, or dry storage area that isn't subject to large variations in temperature.

Have all the products marked with purchase date.

Then you you just use the stuff every day, along with your fresh food, and keep a list of what you use, then replace it on a weekly basis at the grocery store. Rotate it all out, newest in the back, oldest in the front.

You will have your supply of food in case of zombies, etc, and you won't have it sitting around for 5 years untouched.

6 Cans of Whole Eggs (236 servings per can)

how big are these cans? I'm guessing a serving of eggs is at least 1 egg. 236 eggs seems like a lot, even cracked
