I feel like I don't want to buy a sound card yet until I know that it is definitely my mobo and not something else. Realtek seems to look like it installed fine but the symbol I get is the digital box looking symbol instead of the speaker and when I go to the playback menu the speaker symbol says that something isn't plugged in

well the AM cooler fixed the problem
Great!
but now the problem with the audio. I still don't get it both the front and back ports don't work even tho i re installed drivers. I feel like it is the mobo.
Interesting. So has the audio ever worked on this board? The ALC892 should give you a prompt when plugging in speakers. Do you see that? If you haven't already, make sure the HD Audio Azalia device is enabled, as well as the front panel (most likely HD).

If everything looks correct in the BIOS, see what types of audio device entries are in device manager.

In the online manual it's page 3-25. Looks like the section is Advanced\SATA Configuration in the BIOS.

Edit: also see my next post.

Unless you have some odd configuration (not using the green audio connector), "Speakers" should be the setting you want enabled here. If you had speakers plugged in when you posted the pic, check the BIOS setting I mentioned above. With most of these recent chipsets, you can place the audio cable in any device, and the software will ask you which device you plugged in.

Is the Realtek HD Audio Manager installed?

failing that unplug the front panel audio plug from the mobo see what happens then
it`s not difficult to have accidentally plugged it on a usb port.
.but you never know..it may be faulty..food for thought

failing that which is prolly going to cost more than a sound card get an d to a converter box and use the optical out..

yep ok but there are two connectors side by side the spdif and the aafp..you did not get it crossed with the spdif which is labeled "19" in the overlay of the mobo..

3.5mm. this is so weird because both front and rear audio isnt being detected

The only other thing I can thing being a problem is the motherboard audio connection. Unplug it and test the rear connection. If that doesn't work, I can't think what else could be affecting a working video chip if you are testing with good working speaker.

i tried that already. I've tried with two other headsets on rear audio jacks. so i'm guessing it might be the mobo

read pages 3-23 through to 3-25 of your manual..also in the bios you have to scroll down to find the other options

also it should not matter what status your spdif is set to as it will run concurrently...

exactly what you refer to as "hd audio" i am not shure but the card is a very basic one it has ordinary sound..unless your a real audiophile u prolly wont notice any different..but it has no optical out or spdif out ..

and i still think it`s in bios settings..anyway dissable all on board sound when you install the sound card...
