Bob... you want to talk about creditbility?

First; SPCR never did a review of the X2. So you're credibility is knocked down a few notches right there. You have no reason to come to a thread and crap on the OP's choice for a PSU without any personal experience or knowledge of failures, dependability, etc.

Second; I don't appreciate being dragged into a conversation I have nothing to do with. If someone links my review and then you rebuttle with, "Yeah, but he does some work for Ultra so you might want to take what he says with a grain of salt" then that's one thing. But YOU brought my name up and THEN you discredit what I have to say without anyone even asking your opinion about me in the first place. WTF is that?!?!

And third; I did ZERO R&D on the X2. I had nothing to do with Ultra when the X2 was made and I wrote that review LONG before I ever did anything for Ultra.

I have not done any reviews of any Ultra product since my participation with Ultra and I don't plan to. I may do "previews" but I'm well aware of the PR "damage" that can be done from shilling a product. I'm not even going there. At the very least, I can say I wouldn't even be able to handle the stress that would cause.

So you should do what many people that participate in the forums fail to do... STFU about things you don't know about.

EDIT #1: Now I read further in the thread and find you were actually called on your "oops, wrong power supply" Despite this, you still use your platform to mouth off your inherent distain for Ultra regardless of model or personal experience. Brilliant! Makes me want to run right out and buy... oh, let's see... which fan boy are you....

EDIT #2: And I am actually using an X2. ;) But that's only because the 800W X-Finity I AM working on for the company isn't done yet. :)

What? You're a first rate reviewer, alongside Anandtech, SPCR and Tom's among others, the only reviews i knew of from first rate reviewers of ultra PSUs was yours and the SPCR one that was linked to. You do have a connection with the company so sadly your review is not as impartial.

The model of the PSUs is important, but so is the company, if they mask one average PSU with an excessivly shiny case and good marketing then there's more than a good chance they'll do it again. If you can't find a review of the model in question then the next best way of evaluating similar products from the builders.

Now in reference to your mention: If you want to get all pissy about it be my guest. Dragged in? You got a single sentence, if you don't think it should be there then all you had to do was PM me to ask for it's removal and maybe an appology, but that didn't occur to you did it. As far as i'm concerned this derail is finished, the PM function is there for a reason.

Bob,

You and I have gotten along fine in the past. Which is why your post struck a nerve with me. You can say that I'm over reacting and that I should have just sent you a PM, but I can't help but feel like you're stabbing me in the back.

You read what was said in that thread AFTER Googer pointed out my alliance w/ Ultra, yet you still draw conclusions about my motivations as a member of these forums.

I've been told that my reviews of products bearing the Ultra name will from here on be taken with a grain of salt. And that's fine. Like I said, I've made the decision not to even TOUCH an Ultra product for review. Choose to believe it or not. You don't know me well enough to judge my character.

"One sentence" or not, I do feel like bringing my name into the conversation was unnecessary. Saying that there's one legit review and it's done by someone who you should disregard because of an association with Ultra... Why even bring it up? I can tell you that I did that review before I worked for Ultra and if you don't believe me, that's fine. You have that right. Again, you don't know me well enough to trust me about that. But by bringing it up without knowing for sure.. without even asking me for a timeline. That's worst then drawing conclusions about a power supply you don't know anything about.

It's as if to say my time here has been as a shill all along. I even changed where I said "Ultra" in the Power Supply Thread and made it "Silverstone" just to show there's no hard feelings.

Should I take things posted in a forum so personally? I guess not. But in hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have so much of my personal life floating about the web for all to read about either. <proud father>Although I do love the PM's asking me about my little girl.</proud father>

A for the record, Ultra is taking my 800W and putting a shiny titanium finish on it and FlexForce cables. I guess that automatically means it sucks, right? ;)

"If I'm wrong, please tell me why. I'm trying to help, but I'm here to learn, too." Btl

Bob your wrong. Short answer: jonnyGURU has spent years building cred, do you honestly believe he would cast it away for a free lunch?? He has never come off in any forum where I've read his posts, as an agent for Ultra working for AEG. He was disturbed when MGE got a bad rap in another forum but when confronted with some facts, one being the lack of TIM for the heat piped sinks, he stood corrected. For aday it was off-putting when Googer disclosed that jG is a mod at Ultra Products Forum. But who better to help the young & wide-eyed with thier carnival ride builds?? jG was up-front about the first Ultra PSUs falling short of the mark and now that he is working with them it can only get better. Some will gladly pay a premium for bling and as long as it has stable adequate wattage=so what, let them have it. jonny laughed at me in The PSU Thread about not touching bling with a 10"pole and I wouldn't. Give me a server grade PSU to mod anyday ;)
I have read the interaction of other knowledgeable techs with jonnyGURU in threads all over the net. There maybe some debate but respect is never in short supply. The man has some genuine cred with ppl that have been around this industry for a very long time.

I happen to like the technicalities of an XbitLabs review. The reviews at jonnyguru.com are in agreement with them for the most/important part, but jG is not writting for the tech-head. He writes for a younger audience. Plz bear that in mind.

No suprise why the PSU thread was unstickied. *tips hat* TY jonny for your time & effort. Looking forward to more of your posts over BC. I will continue to link PSUInquisitor and your site. Both are to be considered a VG resource to all but the Strawman from OZ :)

This is not personal Bob but in general. I post from GMT-7, some post from GMT. At times I get the feeling the guys from GMT have had one pint too many...Ya know what I mean ;)
